Where did you buy your Vinyls ???

a Newbie here - used to buy my records from Tommy in Pat Egan's Sound Cellar in Nassau Street - is it still there? Freebird came much later.

I remember the 2nd hand stall in Market Arcade-it's still there (not sure if it's in the same place or the same guys running it,but it's still there!) and there was a stall in the Abbey Mall in Abbey St. called Razor Cutz who mostly dealt with Grove type music. He was good at getting imports and rarities which were all the rage for a while in the 80's-coloured vinyls,picture discs etc. Got my first live Dark Side of the Moon there...and a 10" four track Syd Barrett EP.-must be worth something by now...

Also a stall at the entrance to Abbey Mall was a stall (run by a guy called Vincent who went on to run an antique shop on Bachelors Walk) where I bought my first (and still only) copy of Zep 1...

Usto head into town Saturday morning to attend a maths grind in Leeson St but regularly didn't make it there as I had to pass The Dandelion Market on the way...major temptation! Cannot remember the names of any of the stalls but I bought a lot of vinyl in there.  After The Dandelion I would head down to Freebird and then onto Basement records.  This used to take a lot of time because every rack in each shop would be searched thoroughly and any prospective buys examined at lenght for scratchs and then each scratch would be examined until finally the decision was made whether it was worth the money or not.  I remember getting a good copy of Deep Purple Made in Japan in Basement Records for 99p and thinking that it had to be a mistake as a single album was going for about three quid back then never mind a double.  Still have the album..  think I have only ever sold 5 or 6 albums over the years as each album may offer something new at some different time or mood.  Stopped buying vinyl in the early nineties but when we moved to Brussels in 96 I started buying again. Belgium is a collectors paradise.  There are shops and markets selling everything from second hand vinyl to dinky cars to cigarette cards.  Bought a pile of vinyl over there and still do when we visit.  Last vinyl album purchase...Bob Dylan Modern Times, bought it in Freebird on Wicklow Street back of The Hidden Bookstore last week when we were up from the country for the day.  Tend to collect certain artists and bands on vinyl Dylan is one Lambchop is another.  Now where did I put my anorak......

I used to go to pat Egan's freebird, goldendiscs, dandelion market. You never knew when you would pick up a bargain. Agree with comments with regard to Brussels every collector's taste catered for. When I lived there late eighties cds were just coming out, there was a music library where for about a euro (50 francs)  a disc you could borrow a cd for a week. (double cd was 100 francs.)

Remember the days when you got concert tickets in Pat Egans and Golden Discs (Duke Street) generally about the price of an LP and the were no addons- agents fee, credit card charge (not that we had ccs) because there was an r in the month!! AND the gig was in about a month not 8 - 10 months away!

Used to do Freebird every Saturday afternoon with a mate and we'd race up the stairs to the second hand section in blind panic, afraid that one of us would would find the bargain of the week before the other.

Used think one of the lads that ran the place , the one with the straight black hair, not the one with the glasses,looked like Eamon Carr from Horslips.

Have a whole stack of stuff at home that I got there in the teen years.

Invaraibly used get the new stuff from Advance Records in South King Street. Always queued for the U2 stuff on release day there.This was run by a fella called Fred. Don't know what happened to him after the street was redeveloped.
