Evening all,

Just wondering if anyone here has been watching the Seven Ages of Rock on BBC2 the past month or so ? Excellent stuff. And of course Cecil played nearly all the bands featured at some point or another. Particularly enjoyed the Metal programme as am prone to the heavier stuff, but boy did Cecil have his finger on the pulse. Not forgetting many of the 30 Grove years were pre internet, multi-media etc it makes it all the more remarkable.

Won't make the Sheiling this time due to a wedding, but already looking forward to the next one.

Maybe next time they're on you could copy them for those of us who only have UKtv. Will keep an eye out for it tho' cos sometimes they have good programmes on it.

Yo sister - long time no hear.

Saw the metal one and it was very enjoyable, although hardly ground breaking in terms of stunningly original research.

I have managed to miss the others even though I can't remember when I was last out on a Saturday night. Just a bad memory all round I suppose.

think some or all have been taped on that new fangled sky+ thingy we have in the house - might try to work that out.

saw about two minutes of the stadium rock one and they seemed to floar very rapidly past Led Zep and straight into Queen?

I'm searching for that cash I should have saved for the crash

I onlly caught the punk one and the tail-end of last week's when they were talking about U2. Hoping to catch the entire series again soon. It's bound to be re-run somewhere now that we're living in the days of recycled TV.

You're right,'Snapper-Zep just about got a look in,then Queen,Springsteenand Jovi sort of took over. U2 stole the last part of the programme, wasn't expecting them to be on it.

The Prog Rock one was definitely my favourite. Genesis,Floyd,Roxy and Bowie-really good show.

Don't know if it's coming on DVD Donal-so many great programmes were aired and were then lost in the mists of time, like Rock of the 70's,Rock Family Trees (fantastic programme chronicling the family trees of a given bands members, past and present) and now this. As it's BBC it might be made available later. The brilliant Classic Album series thankfully went out on DVD-bought most of them...Deep Purple's Machine head,Pink Floyd's Dark Side...,Mac's Rumours,Maidens Number of the Beast and Cream's Disraeli Gears.

Saturday nights Seven ages of Rock features Nirvana vs REM,and the hidden links between the two bands...

I agree too 'snapper & Floydman. Zep were skipped over and too much time spent on Queen. You could also argue that Zep could have been part of the metal age, but on the other hand they had so much variety that they could have gone into an number of ages. One other thing is that AC/DC or Motorhead have not yet been mentioned to my knowledge. I'm guessing after tomorrow (REM to Nirvana) it will be Britpop or something which may start with the Kinks who have also not featured to date.

Thankfully I have seen them all and the Prog Rock and Metal were good... but I did also like the Nirvana/Black Flag/REM/Pixies one last week.... Bring on the last installment....I hope they do release these on DVD and more as I have said for years now... we should have a dedicated channel for reruns of old music programmes... I would probably watch that over any other kind of crap they throw at us these days....Hi Sister1.... won't make it to next reunion myself either as I'm about to be a dad (2nd time) any day now.... Hello to all the lads if you see them...

Donal,

Just noticed you've changed your name on this. I think we're stuck with the feckin' Wiggles. And its not even the real Greg. (yellow skivvy)

Didn't you hear about Greg then, Lesley? He's got some illness, low blood pressure or something and was continuously fainting and passing out every time he stood up so his understudy Sam has taken over. Everyone is calling it yellow wiggle disease. And yes Ive changed my username and avatar, just for something different. See you Thursday week???
