This post has been copied from the below topic, you know, just to make it easier to find! Thanks for all your suggestions on the above mentioned topic. Here's what we've decided: Ok, after a lot of research we've come to the conclusion that there is no other suitable venue for the Grove 40th Anniversary Reunion than where we're having them at the moment - The Shieling. There is nowhere with a bigger capacity. Most places e.g. The Clontarf Castle can only fit 400 standing. The Shieling can stretch to 450 and a few more... There's also nowhere that's not an official night club that can serve alcohol past 12:30am/1am. The alternative is to hold it in town, let's say for example The Isaac Butt/Radio City/The Cavern (the venue formerly collectively known as the Isaac Butt) where you have a collective capacity (between the 3 venues) of approx 1000, with a late licence til 2:30am. But I think a) holding it in a nightclub style venue where the crowd are divided between 3 rooms will detract (in a huge way) from the atmosphere. So that's not an option. And b) keeping it in the vicinity of the Clontarf/Raheny area is important. St. Paul's is not an option - no bar - no reunion. It just won't work. As much as we'd like it to. So, because at the past reunions it's been a case of fitting 30 years of music into the space of 5 and a half hours, and there's been a lot of complaints about choice of music on the occassions in question, we've decided to run two reunions: '67-'81 on the first night and '82-'97 on the second night. The first night will feature music that Cecil would've played at The Grove up until 1981. The second night will feature music that Cecil would've played at The Grove between 1982 and 1997 - obviously still including music from 1967 era right through to 1997. This way the Anniversary Reunions will be truer to the era of the Grove that the individuals went to. The events will happen back to back, most likely the Saturday & Sunday of the bank holiday weekend. We've not quite decided whether it will be at Easter or the June bank holiday. We'll let you know just as soon as it's confirmed. There will be no additional cost of tickets apart from a handling fee if we decide to go with Ticketmaster (for convenience sake). Both evenings will be charity events with profits from one going to The Cambodian Landmine Museum Relief Fund and the other to an irish charity (yet to be nominated). The www.thegrovesocialclub.com will be paying a professional P.R. agency to advertise and promote the events as well as using our own resources to ensure that as many ex-Grovers as possible are aware of the Anniversary reunions. These advertising costs will be recouped from the revenue generated from the events with all net profit going to the above charities. Merchandise and any additional issues will be addressed as soon as everything else has been confirmed. Thanks, Crusty. |

Defo Xgh. However both nights should only be open to those whose era crossed both periods.........................like me Oh yeah, and Mel of course. Reckon if you split it into 4 seperate eras, Mel would still qualify for them all. Sorry Mel,.............. |

Way to go Crusty... Level thinking prevailed in the end. I'm thinking lots of denim and leather on the first night, then lots of black make up and back combed hair the second? Two nights? I'll pay double for anyone who will babysit for us for two nights... |

If I might make a humble suggestion, I reckon that more punters would come down for the June Bank Holiday weekend than for the Easter weekend.

Well if we can't get a babysitter for both nights our choice would be to go on the first night '67 to'81.....also don't know if we'd have the energy to go both nights and don't think our poor necks would take two nights of headbanging.

Got a point there...it works in reverse ...
bodies might be heading away, away from the big smoke as opposed to coming into it, for the June Bank Hol. Of course..... Can´t suit everyone....know that, it goes without saying. Mins |

I think the Easter weekend might be the better option too. It kills two birds with one stone having the Easter and 40th Anniversary plus more people will be available. Where if you had it the June weekend thats getting close to summmer and more people heading away on holidays with secondary schools being on hols. Also some memeber might have teenagers starting exams and not wanting to leave them for two nights
As for Ticketmaster RIP off shower of **##ers P |

Well it was only a suggestion - whatever is arranged is, I know, bound to put some people out and/or not possible for people to get to - just the nature of these things....

Tell me about it Pete - Roisin woke at 6.00am and it was my turn to keep an eye on things downstairs with her. I just typed away, hungover, as she watched Nick Jr., happy days

I agree, Ticketmaster are a shower of "C U Next TuesdayS", but I'm not aware of any other convenient methods to sell the tickets. I want to make it as easy as possible for punters to make it down to the events. So as much as I loathe the idea of endorsing them, I want this event to be as much of a success as possible. So, again, I'll look into it, but if anyone else knows of a Ticketmaster alternative, please let us know. Thanks. And as for the leaving cert students? We all know that exam doesn't really matter! |

Crusty - try Tickets.ie www.tickets.ie. I know many promoters and events using them instead of Ticketmaster. In regards to TM - I have to say I don't mind paying extra for using the credit card as I can comfortably do it from home compared to standing in queues etc..

Great work Crusty and gang. The sheiling has been excellent for thew two reunions I've been at.
Now to try to figure whether to go to one night or two. My era was the second one, but I figure that the music could be more interesting the first one? But then again (thinking as I type), I'm unlikely to get babysitters for two nights running, and I'm definitely not going to get out by myself for two nights running, so that's one night then. |

I'm searching for that cash I should have saved for the crash
