Am fishing for info. here....
What are your favourite movies of all time and why???
Ones with decent Soundtracks please OR based on a Biography of a Band maybe
Particularly those you would have associated with the Grove for whatever reason ....
Mentioned in other Topics.
The Doors.
Almost Famous.
Rockstar.
The Breakfast Club.
American Graffiti ( remember the Green Onions track - magic !!!).
Looking for the good movie suggestions that mirrors the 67 -97 Grove Years....
Any takers ????

Knew I would forget nearly my all time favourite....
HIGHLANDER....
Fab Queen soundtrack the whole way thru´..
That was the First Movie I attended with my boyf. now hubbie and we saw it in the Curzon. That was a tiny cinema in Upper Abbey St. if I remember well and it was a Double Bill with Clockwise ( John Cleese - funny ).
That was my GROVE association if ever.....
close second was the Breakfast Club....
such an all time anthem that tune turned out to be....
Estupendo !!

I can recommend a couple 'Singles' & 'The Crow'
Singles has alice in chains, pearl jam, the cult, soundgarden, jimi hendix, mother love bone, smashing pumpkins & screaming trees.
The crow has the cure, nine inch nails, rage against the machine, pantera, jesus & mary chain, violet femmes etc

Wasnt there a few good songs in the Lost Boys?? Certainly remember People are Strange played during it!? Sure there were a few more good tracks in it..maybe not Grove songs but good nonetheless..

Withnail & I.... just for the opening sequence of Paul McGann smoking and stumbling his way through the hopeless mess of his shared Camden Town flat to a stunning instrumental version of A Whiter Shade Of Pale performed by King Curtis from the album Live At Fillmore West. Do not know at this stage how many times I have seen the movie but that opening sequence is in a different class.....The rest of the movie is a riot...very very funny and eccentric but ultimately very sad....two ships briefly passing the same way to different destinations...Definitely in the top five...
Goodfellas soundtrack is pretty rocking towards the end of the movie plenty of late sixties Stones, Cream, John Lee Hooker, Derek and the Dominoes all frantically competing with the paranoid snowstorm on screen...

Saw a great double bill in about '71- "the soldier who declared peace" and "vanishing point" with the inimitable Barry Newman. Great cult movies

wait, wait, wait. recall the last post. Woodstock is my favourite and I watch it every month. Golden Discs were very thoughtful and had it on special offer for a tenner a cuple of years ago. Got a great bundle for €30 - Woodstock, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix.

One of the best soundtracks however has gotta be Forrest Gump !
Fave Movies Mins, there's a topic out there somewhere on this.
Deerhunter, Godfather, Schindler's, Once Upon a Time in America and Tin Drum.....think that's what I said back then.

Erm,The Wall?
Cheating really,as it was an album first.
So I'm gonna say...Snatch. Very urban and raw-songs that suited the movie. And Brad Pitt as a Pikey? Brilliant!

If we are broadening out from just rock soundtracks then have to include Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources. not just great soundtrack, great books, great films. Girls if you like a weepie then this is two tissue boxes job! Great cast Yves Montand, Gerard Depardieu, Daniel Auteuil, Emmanuelle Beart If this doesn't break your heart what will?

Great soundtrack to a Docu released about 5 years ago called Dogtown & Z boys (subsequent feature fim made last year which I haven't seen) - basically about the surf/skate revival in LA in the mid to late 70's. features to name but a few: Free, early AC/DC, Zep etc..
