We have a gig review why not a Movie review topic.
Give the movie a 5 Star marking. 5 been best and 0 or 1 been crap
Die Hard 4.0 I give it **** out of 5
Went to see it last night and I thought it was really good. If you are a Die Hard or action film fan you will enjoy it. It action and action all the way through it. Basically the story line is a gang of high tech hackers hack into the USA computer networks and close down everything from Traffic light system to Wall street. Is this the start of Cyber Terrorism The question will there be another Die Hard ??? Does John McClean live or Die ???
There is a scene in it which I think Biker Pat would appreciate near the begining and the end credits

I saw DIe Hard too and I really enjoyed it, I would give it ****and a half, thought the ending was predictably and corny.

Harry Potter The Order of the Phoenix
If you are a Harry Potter fan and read the books and watch all the
other movies.. Well this one doesn't disappoint.. Its darker than the
others. My only complaint there wasn't enough of Helena Bonham Carter
in it...

Helen Mc Crory had a small part in " Charlotte Gray "..
the SOE spy who was nabbed when Charlotte passed her a parcel under the table in a French Cafe..
she was supposed to have a big part in the newest HPotter moveie but had to back down due to being pregers...
Her other half is that DISH of an actor Damian Lewis who played Major Dick Winters in "Band of Brothers" and also starred as Soames in a remake of "The Forsyth Saga"...

Transformers Movie 4/5
Went to see it in Galway. Looking forward to it but I didn't think it was going to as good as it was. The effects were excellent the story was well the usual bad guys fighting the good guys. The action and camera footage was good. If you have any sons or nephews grab and bring them to it it well worth seeing has action a bit of comedy, boys fancies girls and special effects. Tranformers transfoms well from Cartoon to Live action movie.
Its in my Top 3 Summer movies... Oh I only went to see three summer movies Harry Potter and Die Hard and Transformers...
Next one will be The Simpsons

Went to see "knocked Up" yesterday evening.
A bit of a chick flick but men will have a laugh too. About a girl who goes out one night to celebrate her promotion, gets trolleyed and ends up with a guy. He doesn't use a condom at the last minute and bobs your uncle...
Its a good story about their relationship as a result etc, humourous and sad in places.
And one seriously graphic scene when she is giving birth, I even had to look away....
Worth a look for the girls and the not too squimish for the birth scene.

Hiya,
Went to see "Mr. Woodcock" this evening. A good laugh. Stars Sean Williams Scott and Susan Sarandon and Billy Bob Thornton.
Basicallly it's about a guy who has written a self help book and comes home to his hometown to receive a reward and discovers that his mam is dating the gym teacher from hell who made his life a misery when he was in school.
Some really funny moments and all the actors are cast really well and suit the characters they play.
Worth a visit to the cinema to see.
3 and a half stars out of five.

Watched a great film lasy night.
It was called "Black Book" (or in Dutch Zwartboek). I would recommend it
Plot out line is a jwish girl in hiding in Holland is forced to move when the plaace she is hiding gets bombed. Ends up with the resistance and working in the Gestapo hq.
Directed by Paul Verhoeven.
Its in Dutch/English/German or if like me you dont like dubbed films , it has English subtitles
(there is a Britney Murphy film with the same title. This isn't it)

Ok guys,
Just back from seeing the new movie "Stardust".
Well, all I can say is if you are a fan of films like The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Lord Of the Rings and anything magical and mystical then this film is the ticket for you.
Michelle Pfeiffer is stunning as the wicked one, beautiful and ugly and her english accent is very good.
Claire Danes shines as the part of the falling star and the hero is great too, don't know his name as I've never seen him before.
All in all it was a fab experience, the effects are good and it's a really fantastical frenzy of a journey.
So, leave your adult self at home and bring your dreaming childhood full of mystical enchantment with you and enjoy.

Bought that one as soon as it came out T-gripping is right. Very compelling to watch-our sad,sad history is just so hard not to get wrapped up in.
Thought it was great to see an Englishmans (Ken Loach) very tender take on the aftermath of the Rising.
Was set (in part) in Bandon where I lived for a few years...and if you watch very VERY carefully, you can see a white Ford Fiesta parked outside the courthouse...very ahead of their time those Free State Volunteers!

The Prestige is not exactly a new release (I saw it previewed on Film 2007 early this year) and bought the DVD release.
Set in the late 1800's,The Prestige (which is the punchline or twist in a magic trick, like the lady re-appearing after vanishing) follows two rivalling magicians (Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman) under the tutorship of a very distinguished Micheal Caine trying to out do each other in search of the perfect magic trick.
Travelling the world,Jackman's character takes him to Sweden to meet Nikola Tesla (credited with inventing AC electricity) who makes a 'box' which really does mean he can perform the perfect trick.disappearing,reappearing,bi-location and even duplicity. But how does the trick work?
It drives the two men almost to murder, and see's them perfecting otherwise impossible feats.
The final twist,or Prestige,as how the trick is done, will keep you guessing right to the end-and you won't see it coming.
Fantastic sets, great peformances all round (Christian Bale with a very convincing cockney accent) and a very suspenseful storyline.
9 and a half out of 10.

Watched "A Mighty Heart" last night with Angelina Jolie!!!!! She was fantastic in it.
It's based on a true story! Remember the journalist that was kidnapped in Pakistan and then beheaded by the terrorists!
It's the story of that! It will rip your heart out!
Vicious animals! I have always felt that is the most harrowing thing I have ever heard of! How could you live with yourself after doing such a thing! OR how could you even do it to begin with. They found his body cut up into ten pieces in the end!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I´ve just seen "I Am Legend", which I was really looking forward to, being a big science fiction fan. I thought that it was rubbish. It is a remake of "The Omega Man", starring Charlton Heston, but it lacks everything that made the original film great. There is no suspense, creepiness or the utter sense of loneliness that you could feel in the original. The computer generated mutants are dreadful to say the least.
All in all another disappointing Hollywood film.

Robbie my boys went to see it over Christmas too and said to quote them 'it was just crap!' I heard a similar review on the radio yesterday - said first half was good and the reviewer reckoned it was 'half a good film!'

Robbie,
Completely agree with you about I am legend - But they ripped off more than the omega man - bits of 28 days later and war of the worlds ( bridge scene) complete rubbish - But Why oh Why did they have to kill Sam ( she was a beautiful dog).

D'oh Mary - you've just given away the plot - Poor Sam . just kidding! doesn't sound too good.
I'm just back from 'I'm Not There' the Bob Dylan film. Loved it. Cate Blanchett is brilliant as Dylan. (yes, Cate Blanchett!) Heath Ledger and Richard Gere also portray Bob pretty well.
A definite for Dylan fans - (it's on in the Dublin IFI till Thursday)

Roundabout too
Sorry about the plot - I think I probably did someone a favour !
Dat's another thing I miss about Dublin the IFI we only get mainstream stuff in Tralee and sometimes we have to go to Limerick to see a movie thats not coming here. Dat Dylan movie sounds really good.

Robbie I love watching those sort of movies - You know they are crap but you sit through them anyway. Over the christmas I sat through Children should not play with dead things - It took about 14 cups of coffee and a fair bit of squirming has to be the worst horror movie of all time - worth a look !!!!!!!
