Martin, Assuming the get together is on the 4th, you should come straight on to Harrys after the gig. You will be there by 11pm - leaving plenty of drinking time.

The setting up the Poll thingy is a bit confusing (at least it was for me, when I did one a few years back).  When you create the poll, it asks you if you want to allow 'multiple votes' - I took this to mean that it allows more than one person to vote but it obviously means allow each person to vote multiple times.  I presume that's what has happened in this case.

We believe u Rolo though thousands wouldnt.

See this is what happens when you take the job out of the "official"  social secetary's hands amateurs there everywhere these days

personally would prefer the 3rd myself town or harrys whichever suits but I think the 4th is more popular so hows about deciding a date first then go for the venue so all in favour of the 4th ( taking into account of course that I cant go that night...................) so yeh here

Atta girl J, you tell them. Only way to do this ( and those of you who
remember the best attended and most enjoyable nights we have had (
Les and Mary's Aussie outing , Teresa's night out for the guests and
Carol's Neptune adventure ) will also remember that the date and
venue were a given and punters pitched up if they could, always in
great numbers,I may add. Just think that the poll allows for too many
variables and that sometimes plans fall by the wayside. So , social
secretary, what's it to be ?

This is looking, to me, like more and more of an option
(even though I think Martin was probably joking at the
time - werent you?? ).

The way things stand - If people aren't available for the
night that is chosen for our drinkies night then they
miss out altogether.

So, my suggestion is that those who can only make 3rd
December go to that get-together and those that can only
make 4th December, go to that get-together.

If anyone can make both nights (lucky them!) then they
can attend both nights!

I know that we won't be all together on the one night
with this option but it might be a good compromise?

If the "new" Poll is anything to go by, 14 votes for a
Rock Bar in Dublin on Friday 3rd December and 15 votes
for Harry Byrnes on Saturday 4th December, people seem to
be pretty split on this so perhaps two nights might be
best. Everyone, of course, should they wish, could come
to both. Let's be honest, we aint ever gonna get a venue
and date that suits everyone on here.

What do ye think?

The one that Brunswick cant make?

Seriously, dude, I know that some of the gang don't like
town (I count myself, but not the only person, amongst
that number) and, conversely, I'd imagine that others
find Harry Byrne's hard to get to.

Just thought it might make a good compromise!?

Edit: I suspect that 27th November suits me too, for what
it's worth.

This Pre-Christmas night is getting very complicated indeed. I think just stick to the 4th now.

So as was said previously by our esteemed leader someone needs to bite the bullet pick the date the venue and who ever can pitch up pitchs up, think it is the fairest way to do it really.

Re starting time, I suspect you'll get various responses, depending on the individual.  I think I'll head down between 8pm and 8.30pm, personally, as it's a Saturday and close to Christmas and likely to be jammers.  If the 'snug' at the back is still free then I might try to "hold" the place until others arrive (unless Rolo can use his conections to book the spot??? )

Hopefully, the heavy weather doesn't get
too bad and we can get to/from HBs...

I haven't had a drink since Halloween. I'll be there even
if takes a dog-sled and a team of huskies!

Time will tell I suppose.  It's not looking great at the minute out there, since the forecast is bleak, but one never knows.

looking forward to it!

I can't help there Rainey J, as I can't make 3rd (and if this weather stays like this, 4th is looking dodgy as well now).  Anyone planning on heading in on 3rd able to answer this?

Reminds me of my 40th birthday bash. Lads, Mary and June
were able to trek all the way from NCD into town in a
massive blizzard back in January. Now, you're not about to
let a pair of ladies show you up, are you?

Gave up trying to organise a get together on the 3rd and went with one night only (HBs on the 4th).

A slight thaw is expected on east coast on Friday as rain arrives and temperatures rise a little. There is then no more snow is expected afterwards for the rest of the weekend though it will remain very cold. By Saturday, I am optimistic that travel to/from HBs will be ok as long as we are well wrapped up!

Weather forecast on tv just now not as optimistic as previous forecast above. Apparently the rain from the west will meet the cold air from the east on friday and may bring more snow on friday evening.

If it's just rain/cold/windy then I'm still good to go for
Saturday but if it's still snow and ice on the roads then I
probably won't travel.

Edit: The Meteireann forecast looks somewhat optimistic, so
fingers crossed. :)

Few of us locals will be on the premises I would imagine Jackie. You
won't have to put up with Shar all by yourself.
