Help got a new dvd player recently, multi region and while the first couple of discs played great, yesterday daughter sat down to watch "Hex" discovered that while picture was fine all we could hear was the background sounds but not the dialogue. We  tried other discs subsequently. and they were fine. Tried "Downfall" and again no dialogue but all explosions or whatever could be heard fine. Tried the manual to no avail.

Any ideas folks

Check the scart lead to see if they have come loose
if you have picture and no sound this is usually the cause.

Go to the "Audio Setup" on the DVD menu and make sure you have it set to Stereo and not 5:1 sound. Thats what happening with it I reckon anyway

The problem is probably that the DVD you trying to watch doesn't have the option of changing to normal Stereo from 5:1 and thats why you are loosing out on the the main speech.

Can you go into the Audio menu of the main DVD player and not a disk. sometimes the player has built in audio setting

Thanks I will try that ( I had noticed when I went into the set-up on "Downfall" it didn't have a stereo option)

Is it a Home Cinema Systemwith surround or is sound from the TV? If sound comes trhough the TV you might need a decent scart from DVD player to TV. The €4.99 ones aren't great with the late/better players.

Had trouble with sound when I got mine but new scart sorted it. (€22!)

Life must have been easy back in the days when there was nothing but the wireless radio. One button for on, one Button for off.

Now a days you can't even buy an Iron without a manual

This is the guy I am hoping to get for our kitchen - (086) 371 0962 Neil - about 15 -20 per sq metre. Right Price Tiles in Coolock (beside Woodies on Malahide Road) are having a sale - decent enough tiles for 18 per sq metre

Verh,

There is a thread in the "Off-Topic" forum, called "Useful Contacts" started by Biker Pat (its a bit back down the list though).  Is that what you mean?
