First gig I was ever at was Chris De Burgh in the RDS. This was when he was good and before he released Lady in Red.
Also went to see Ozzy in McGogles doing a Warm up for his world tour back in 1990-91 |

First " Big Gig " ever was Horslips at the National Stadium in 1978. I was 14 and was allowed go with two friends 'cos the 20B Bus went almost door to door in those days. The gig was truly memorable for an impressionable teenager for lots of reasons, the atmosphere, the music, the sense of having grown up etc. I'll never forget that night as it gave me the thirst for more of the same. I'd been to McGonagles and The Dandelion to see a selection of local bands before that night, wonder does anyone remember any of the following who graced the local scene at the time. The Atrix, DC Nein ( subsequently changed to Tokyo Olympics ) The New Versions,The Radiators, Rocky De Valera and The Gravediggers, The Bogey Boys ( never liked them or The Lookalikes )The Blades and of course U2. Best ever Gig, couldn't pick one, think I posted this somewhere before........... Top five, in no particular order, Stones at the Point , had great seats. Waterboys one New Years Eve in the Top Hat in Dun Laoghaire,David Byrne at the Olympia,July '04, U2 Christmas '83 in The SFX and U2 Feb,'81 at The RDS and The Ramones at the now defunct TV Club in Harcourt St. in about '81 or '82..................... Really love The Ramones...............One, Two, Three, Four. Pete, just seen the Chris De Burgh thing..................... All street cred painstakingly earned over the last few days has now flown unceremoniously out the window...............Chris de Bleedin' Burgh........................please. Rolo. |

Hey I was young and he was good ONCE upon a time.
We all made mistakes sometimes in out life I went with my brother and I was only about 13-14... But I have made up for since with gigs I have been at... Simple Minds U2 Metalica, Maiden, AC/DC, Plant & Page, Bowie, Springsteen, Deep Purple, Whitesnake, Skid Row also Jackson Prince Tina Turner to name but a few... Hey the cred I achieve shouldn't be written that quick it was over 20 years ago since I went to Chris De Burgh and will stand up and say it was a good gig... I just better not tell you i have seen him live 4 times...D'OH!!!!! |

No Pete, he was not good. Not ever. Sorry but he's always been complete and utter crap. I mean whoever heard of God and The Devil playing cards on a train in Seville, or A Spaceman arriving at the manger in Bethlehem, bollix to that, spacemen hadn't even been invented 2006 years ago .................. and as for that Lonely Sky or Sailor, just don't get me started. I was having a pleasant day. No,sorry Pete, there's absolutely no extenuating circumstances under which you're allowed pass any remotely favourable comments about that man.Don't care how young you were. Never got to see AC/DC, a big regret of mine. Rolo.

Arra Blondie, just having a laugh. Actually do hate him ( Chris, not Peter ) though. Stepaside, now there's a name I haven't heard in years. Hadn't they about 6 or 7 members, think one had a saxaphone, really dredging through the recesses here. Rolo. |

So two things you hate are Man U and Chris De Burgh.... I suppose his songs are a little bit religious (Which I am not) "Well the lord and the devil are now playing chess the devil still cheats and wins more souls as for the Lord... Well he just doing his best" Really pushing out this topic out on a limb |

no comment, just for the record the worst gig i was at would have to be a close run thing between natalie imbruglia in a sydney carpark and u2 in croke park (3rd night) , nothing wrong with u2's performance its just up the top of those stands i couldn't hear a damn thing. |

Yes Lizzy were fantastic as was The Rolling Stores - although I must say I have seen some good acts in my time - loved Rod Stewert in the RDS he was a great show man. Seen Bowie in Slane but not the best I have ever seen. Hope to see Roger Water here in Sep and will give you a review of that. Would like to see The Goo Goo Dolls when home but that remains to be seen. The Eagles play June 11th I think at home and I hear they are great in concert - would love to see that but it's the day we leave I am thinking.

First gig. Horslips in Top Hat in Bray in 1972. Have been to many gigs since. See Concert thread. One gig that was special was U2 in the Georgia Dome, Atlanta, Georgia in USA in 1992. Got tickets, special passes etc.. and it was amazing to see the rock gliteria in the USA lauding U2, one of our own. Still have the pass badges etc.. And the Americans love U2, I mean really love them. It's amazing. U2 get knocked here but in USA they're mega. Will always remember the hysteria at that gig when U2 were on stage. Sorry Pat hope I did not insult you with the Dylan slam - I like some of his stuff - but it was a terrible venue for him - it's big and needed someone big to fill it - it was just not for him. I don't think it was crowd pleasing.

Not at all........you're perfectly entitled to your opinion......I saw Dylan in Simmonscourt and the sound was crap. As a result I didn't enjoy the gig. Was at Stones in Slane. Thought they were brill and George Thorgood & Destroyers best support act. J Geils Band were crap. Edited by Biker Pat |
