This is a bit of shameless promotion, but I thought it might be of interest to some of you on the look out for new music... I look after a band called LunarMile who are based in the UK's West Midlands. They've got a pretty unique music heritage as they feature offspring of members of two of the biggest metal bands to come out of the Midlands - the lead singer is Toni-Marie Iommi and bassist is Alex Hill. That said, they are not metal themselves and are more in the classic rock mould (they describe themselves as Led Zeppelin meets No Doubt). They released their first EP earlier this year, and have recently supported Blue Oyster Cult. Anyway, for those of you with time to kill on the net and looking for a distraction from work, you can check out music clips at www.lunarmile.com or www.myspace.com/lunarmile, or you can hear a full track at www.overplay.com/lunarmile. Would be keen to hear what you think. Be honest - if you don't like them please say so; it's always good to get feedback whether positive or negative....

Hey Lola, Just had a listen to the band and they are good, Led Zeppelin meets No Doubt is weird combination, i have to say, but it seems to work for them. Fair play to them for supporting Blue Oyster Cult. Is the EP on sale here?

Lola - I echo what Russell said. They sound like a talented /tight outfit and I'd say they are great live. I'm curious as to the market for metal nowadays. Certainly using myspace, youtube, etc seems to be the new de facto way for bands to build up a wider (global) fanbase. I can't help but noticing that the lead singer is undoubtedly the daughter of Tony Iommi .. a legend in the Brummie band that probably can be credited with the whole birth in popularity of heavy metal !! |

Yep, we've got the daughter of Tony Iommi on vocals, and completely coincidentally the son of Judas Priest's Ian Hill on bass. To be honest, we spent a long time not mentioning the family links because the band were keen to make it on their own merit, but eventually it was all over the web so we reckoned we may as well be up front about it. Toni-Marie is a brilliant frontwoman (swear I'm not biased!), she's pretty fearless on stage whether it's an audience of 2 people or 200 people and she's absolutely stunning looking which undoubtedly helps. They are going for more of the classic rock end of things than the metal market, but you are right, it's a difficult scene to be trying to get noticed in. The likes of BBC Radio 1 and NME are really just looking for the new Arctic Monkeys, or quirky indie bands, which LunarMile certainly are not so that makes it tougher to break into the industry. That said, they are still getting a fair bit of interest from the more niche rock/metal media so hopefully if they keep plugging away it will get picked up by the mainstream.... |
