Feeding the horse you call it? More like stuffing it's
face! Some guys were lucky that it didn't bite back!!! I
remember a few occassions where it was more like
"sticking your fingers up the horse's nose" (if ya
know what I mean!?) I'm sure a few of my fellow
Grove girls know exactly what I'm talking about! You
were lucky if ya got a guy who had even the slightest
notion about what he was at. I sometimes think that
it was so that they could go back and brag to their
mates. It definitely wasn't for our pleasure's sake!!!

I hear you sister! My God, I think some of the lads
who went to the Grove were absent during "Sex Ed"
week and biology class. They should've distributed
The Do's & Don'ts of "Horse Feeding" (as they've so
delicately put it on this site) leaflets round all the
schools on the northside! Maybe the compound
would've been a busier place... and not so many
miserable looking teenager girls!!!

Now girls, I think you're being a bit harsh on our
Northside Boys! I found that all they needed was a
little guiding hand and it worked a treat, the voice of
experience. Although I know what you mean about
the bragging element. I used to hang around with
these bunch of lads from Artane and I remember that
one of them, lets call him Thomas, had just scored
(most likely for the first time) with this girl. I
remember it was a cold December evening, so
instead of heading out to the compound they stayed
on the chairs along the wall-bars in the main hall.
But all I remember was this guy coming up to the
gang, (he obviously didn't see me), holding up his
middle finger for all the lads to smell it! As if he had
just hunted the prize deer or something. The sense
of achievement was tangible!

"I sometimes think it was so they could go back to brag to their mates" ... you SOMETIMES think??? Can I come and live in your world where sometimes adolescent guys considered there might be anything else but the "smell my finger" factor in these encounters. How innocent we were! Now I have two daughters and please tell me, how do I warn them????

Maybe this website could serve as the "Alternative (real life) Sex Education For The Younger Generation". Nevermind the birds and the bees, we're talking about bigger species here - horses and monkeys! :)

You know when I first read this forum I thought to myself “Am I just innocent of what”! but then I spoke to my ever worldly husband… and guess what, that part about the fella sticking his middle finger up and saying – smell that, well my husband said they used to do that and say – here smell my new girlfriend… now is that disgusting or what – don’t worry I married the sucker… The things you find out after 14 years… LOL…..

that actually reminds me of something a mate of mine from artane did  one night. I was sat on the chair when this finger gets shoved in me face. The knacker. These artane people didnt hang out across from mc donalds did they? Would have been between 92 and 95 ish.....

The compound just didn't look the same on the documentary....never saw it before in day light and no bodies lying around the ground.

Do you not remember going to the Grove in the Summer and it was still bright out in the Compound?

Mind you, people were just snogging...and then when it started to get dark, the real shennanigans began

Right guys, I've said this before and Teresa and Stevie just didn't believe me but it's the God's honest truth.

Like Mel ( Brunswick ) I went to the Grove for about 6 years ( I know, far too long but whatcha gonna do ? )........and in all those five years, never once set foot in the Compound ( Swear to God )

.........and worse still was never even aware of it's existence until this Forum kicked off.

Laugh if you will, but it's the truth.bigcrybigcry

Rolo..have to admit...I don't think I ever did either.....least not for nefarious deeds...hehehe!! and bluebell..if you say you were..then you better start thinking of an excuse..cos it wasn't with me....

As for that whole finger thing..well...I thought it was juvenile and disgusting then..and I still do now...besides..if i ever got that lucky..wasn't gonna spoil it by going around bragging about it...

I remember the compound with grass and a railing.  Even though I sorta suspected (from rumours etc.,) the type of thing that went on, I dont recall ever getting involved in any 'undercover' activity out there - I do remember going out once or twice to genuinely "get some air" with a girl as it used to be boiling in the hall but nothing ever really happened   Maybe I was just too innocent back then.

And Rolo, nothing wrong with being to the Grove for 6 yrs+

Quite right Mel. Remember saying somewhere on this Forum that I think I'd still be going if I could.

Rolo,

I started going down with one crowd at first, then many of them stopped going, so I started hanging around with a new crowd.  Then some of that crew left and some of my younger brother's friends started to come down.  When it got to the point that young grovers were saying hello to me but I just didnt know who they were or when girls were saying "Hey, you're Mel, my sister used to talk about you!", I knew it was time to stop...it was a wrench though
