Hi Everyone,

Not sure if this merits its own thread but who remembers the old St Pauls "Socials" in the GP room in the School?  They used to run these on a Friday night about 4 times a year and it wasnt quite as hard to get into the disco/dance as the Grove, which we felt was a bit intimidating in those early teenage years.  I really loved those Socials, looking back on it.  I think it was pretty much all Manor House girls that came to the Socials but I could be wrong.  Anyway, Happy memories.  Anyone else go to those?

Ah loved them! Fr. Moore always let me in the back door! I was so small that nobody believed my age! Still the same to this day...

The very mention that a social was on and we were running home to change and off we went...

Great fun. Lived for those nights.

Ah, Fr. Moore.  A real nice fella, from what I remember.

Yep I went to those..can`t remember who was running them though.

Progressed onto the Sing Out Parties then.

They were wild altogether and yes I think the majority of the girls in my year who didnt get into Sing Out came to the socials to see what they were missing...snigger..snigger...remember that well.

Sing Out Auditions..when the lowly crowd rose up, displayed their numerous talents of a vocal and rhythmical nature ( other talents were displayed later)

..yes the lowly ones rose up against the MOO MOO cow lot in the year and scored like they never scored before...

ah happy daze indeed.

Socials were held in the gym by the time I was there Mel - which was exactly where the Grove was held as we all know.

I always felt they were kind of like an audition for the Grove - easier to get in, easier for folks to let you out as they finished earlier, there was trust that they were run by the school. They were run by teachers by the time I was there, although I think Fr John (the trendy young chaplain) may have been about. Great crack being all grown up outside smoking in front of teachers

Had my first ever snog with a lovely Manor Farmer way back at a third year social - happy days indeed

Anthea Norton was her name - I may edit the name out, as no doubt people would not like this to be the reference to them the whole world could see. and please god it's not someone on the site...

She was from Maywood direction and knew a load of the guys in my class.

One of them, Walshey, got his sister to ring me up the following week, pretending to be your wan, and ask me to meet up with her.

I thought I had the whole female thing sorted nicely

Needless to say neither herself nor my mates sister showed up at the appointed time. The lads had given me far too much credit for cop on and assumed that I wouldn't turn up - hence they weren't there to see a confused lovelorn youngfella wandering round the park.....

Next time I met her was on the arm of the self same Walshey - "I believe you two know each other"? Morto the two of us....

Its gas isnt it, some of those memories.  At the time, you feel like digging a big hole and jumping in but, after a few years, they almost seem like bittersweet memories (maybe I just want to be that young again! )

Yes I remember the socials in the GP room and they also held them in the canteen of the swimming Pool I rember dancing to Tiger feet by Mud.I don't think they ever played that in the Grove.

Some Manor House Girls Attended .But for the life of me I can't remember any
