Who were those guys ? bACK DURING '76 - '79

No one has talked about the vetting procedure carried out by these mini hitlers in order to get a membeship card. It was as bad as trying to get out of the USSR.

Denny was one, Sean McGuinness is another that I know of...

I asked a friend of mine if he was going to any of the reunions and he said the only people he would be able to have a reunion with was the bouncers as he was never able to get past the door!!

Ah T, I know John McGuiness, he's still running around the roads of Raheny.

Barry was the blonde one in the sheepskin coat, and Aidan was another............80 - 85 ish.

Mick Diggin was another - not a bad guy. Who was the one with the beard - wore a brown duffle.

You're joking Mel.

See him regularly, our office is close to where he lives and I see him going in and out of the shop next door.

Also met him at a few parties over the years, think his wife is related some way to a friend of mine or something.

First night we went down we were refused but got my friends Dad to bring us back down and got the membership that night.. done and dusted...

I think some of those guys were x police men - I know Sean McGuinness is - see him all the time when I go home - nice guy.

The first night we went to the grove we also got refused and we had travelled all the way over from the Navan Road...it was a long journey home on the bus....but then we pleaded our case with the bouncers and after about 4 weeks of giving them big doe eyes....they gave us a membership. Myself and 3 friends felt like queens for the night.

See what I mean - what was the procedure anyway - It took me about 6 visits to get in.

I seem to remember there being certain bouncers that were better than others for letting ya in...

I remember yer man Barry okay..in the sheepskin... think I remember praying I wouldn't get him before I got my membership cos he always refused me....

Also remember them raiding the girls toilets quite a lot... and coming out with loads of empty vodka naggins...hehe!!..no area was safe from their investigations...cept maybe the very far corner of the stage area...

Welcome Hayseed, Welcome Hogo
Yes it took a few visits before you got in, then you had to sign a book for a while before you got your grovecard! Well worth it though!
Didn't take long before bringing a bottle or 2 to St Annes, and a packet of mints!
I only remember being refused 2 or 3 times, and had no drink taken!

Think you're right! remember we used to go in 1 or 2 at a time? and if we'd had a sip or 2 beforehand, we'd meet in the loo and have a giddy giggling session at having gotten past the bouncers! CP.

I think the bouncer you are talking about was not attached to raheny stn. He was in the minesterial pool of drivers. I still see one of the other bouncers (retired garda) walking the roads a lot. I suspect he has had a nervous problem judging by his appearence. I think he was the one wearing the brown duffle. They were always fair and took no sh*t from anyone. I now have an 18 year old daughter and wish the places she goes to have as good doormen as the grove had.
I never kissed anything that could lick it's own balls.

One of the bouncers works in a cafe off Talbot Street (well he used to up to a few years ago).  He always reminded me about the time I got sick over some poor bloke in the compound

And he believed me when I told him it was cos I wasn't used to smoking major!  Ha ha, nothing to do with the cans of Ritz consumed before hand (does anyone actually drink that stuff anymore)
