Come on guys....get it out of your system...now is the time......

Scratch the bean or noggin there and THINK back.....

When you headed down that familiar beaten path to the Grove....

were you full of optimism, hope, longing, lust. ?????.....

In addition to the whole "lad" thing going on with the mates and the music, the gear, the booze, the bikes, the artwork and the patches......

Had you hope in your heart and loins of finally seeing or scoring the perceived IDEAL GROVE BABE ?????

You might, as you were paying the weekly homage to the Grove, had a clear picture in your head of what an Ideal Grove Babe should look like, feel like, sound like and what she SHOULD be wearing ?????.

You would have had to have role models of course....

Stevie Knicks, Kate Bush, Rosie Vela, Judie Tzuke, Chrissie Hynde.....even Maire Ni Bhraonain from Clannad who was quite the hit at Lisdoon in her day......

Did you ever find her ?????

We are waiting to hear, at least I am !!!!!!!!

Susanna was pretty hot okay..but I reckon in those days...it would have been Stevie Nicks that all self respecting male rockers would have drooled over..hehehe!!

Of course I met my ideal Grove babe at the Grove...and I wasn't the only one

How about you Mins? Did you meet Mr. Perfect at the Grove?...

It was some experience dring down today with the winds buffeting the carHad to slam on on one of the back roads when a large branch came down . At least I stopped in time. At home with a bottle on wine now - must go and get a glass.

My wife of 7 years (isn't that a bit young?-ha ha) went during the very same years as me,drank in the Nep ( and sometimes Bruxelles),lived in Artane and would occasionally be seen in St.Annes with a bottle beforehand and certainly up at the mound on Sunday afternoons.

Do you think we met EVER during those years? Nope.

She worked in the Hotpoint customer care desk (where I am a service engineer) and she was in charge of giving me calls to go to. We met through work. We moved in exactly the same circles back then and never clapped eyes on each other. How mad is that?

Monring Floydman,

I wonder how many times you actually saw each other, passed each other by etc!!!!

How weird is that. You guys were obviously meant to meet eventually.

My hubby's an aussie and has no idea what I'm talking about when I mention the grove. Sad. He didn't have anything like that growing up.

< name="AdsSignaller">if(document.body){document.body.off_complete = "yes"; window.status = "off_end"; window.status = ""} Yes Mins, looking back in hindsight there was, in my mind, an ideal Grove babe, and that's what kept me counting the days and the hours till the following Saturday or Sunday evening - and I actually got to dance and chat to her lots of Sundays way back then - Cecil's Kris Kristofferson slow number being one of my many favourites at the time - Irene had long blonde hair and a 'Shree' look - long flowing patterned Indian-like dresses. And she also smelt and felt great too. Don't know if it was Opium though. Met her again some years after my groving was over, she had gone on to be a primary school teacher (lucky kids) and I was already on my way over here. Ages but seems like only yesterday! The Documentary and the Grove Forum have brought all these wonderful old feelings and memories back again -- so thanks to you all!!!

Hiya Taylor,

Yes, this site brings back some fantastic memories that I'd forgotten about until somebody mentions it. ie certain songs, certain clothes etc

That is a lovely story Taylor....read that and just found these words demanding to be written down...

so....

All those years ago
and a passing glance
at the girl I might fall in love with
the way she moved
the way she brushed against me
when she passed
those moments when eyes met
briefly
and I felt words form
but never make it from my lips
too young to know the power
of alcoholic fortitude
I stumbled on
all too aware
how unaware she was
of me.
So years pass
and life weaves a path
that I sometimes follow
and sometimes resist
and she is nought now
but a distant memory
brought to life
by casual conversations
a familiar scent
or a face in a crowd
I have loved since then
watched children grow
found happiness
and sadness in abundance
and every now and then
she wanders by
ethereal
nameless
just a vague feeling
of youthful joy
and longing
another page
in an always unfolding book.
