With only a month to go to the Easter Reunions, would it be feasible to get someone together as a presentation to Cecil to mark the occasion. I for one think 30 years of the Grove was a very rare and special thing, possibly never to be repeated. Cecil is the man, who week in and week out made it all happen. And 40 years later, the draw is still as special and powerful. How about we mark it in some way for the man himself. You all saw what it meant to him on the RTE Documentary. He really deserves it. Any ideas as to what we could do ? |

This came up before on an earlier thread,Sister1-even Crusty was overwhelmed with all kinds of suggestions and he said he would leave that up to us. But you're right-he deserves something. Seeing as we have lots of photos of the re-unions (I have some with Cecil dancing) I thought of a montage framed. I don't have any from the actual Grove itself but thay are out there and we can scan them. My printer is not working though! Any other ideas? |

A mate enquired of RTE about getting copies of a previous documentary (the famous Roddie Collins one). RTE do them for a couple of hundred or so. would a copy of the documentary be a good way? If it was done in a nice frame and official edition and all that? I'll ask Mick what the details were again and if it sounds like a runner can post what I've found out. But you're right, the montage of photos would be a lot better and more personal, which would be great. |

I love the idea of a montage of photos
It would be great to get old photos from years ago and new photos from the reunions all together in one big frame showing the last 40 years. I know there is a place in Wicklow that does them professionaly, but it costs around 200 euro. Another idea.....how about getting a tree planted (maybe in St Annes) in his honour? I know this is getting quite popular to do now, but don't know how you go about doing it ? |

Guys, the suggestions are great - - is anyone going to take the lead and get them going - time is running out and some of these would take a bit of time. I'm quite willing to contribute money but unfortunately don't have the time to organise -
Let me know the final decision and who to send /give the money to.
cheers Jackie |

OK-for a start I will organise a photo montage. If ANYONE has photos from the Grove, even the ones previously posted on 'Grove Pictures' thread send them to me at martinkilbride@eircom.net and I'll get something organised. On the night we could all write something on the back of the frame or something (would need a bloody big frame).and it could be at least something we can give him. Anything else??? |

I think the tree idea is great also. But lads, we can't forget Crusty also for being the person that got it all going again.... In fairness, if it wasn't for Crusty there wouldn't be reunions for Cecil to appear at or us to enjoy and re-trace our memories. Maybe a small frame of photos for Crusty too. |

As someone who is probably closest in age to Cecil and have accumulated most of the things I wanted in life and anything of interest I can always buy.
The things that are most important to me are the affection and appreciation of family and friends. This is why my suggestion is something as simple as a thank you or appreciation card. I am sure that flicking through hundereds of cards will make him a very happy man in his later years.(Frank) Edited by monarch |

I think that is a good idea Monarch particularly for myself as I am missing the reunion. At least I can post mine to one of you guys and it can get passed on...a large box full of individual hand written notes or cards is something that is easily done.
The montage or a conventional photo album could be added also... A nice box of goodies for him to reflect on, read over as many times as he wants and then store safely for the next time he wants to trip down memory lane.. Nod of Approval for that one from me anyhow.

Maybe we could incorporate all those ideas! The idea of the tree planting is fantastic as it could be "shared" with Cecil. Those living nearby can show their kids - "look what we did cos it was important to us". Sends a great message to the kids. Maybe even get someone from RTE etc to attend a tree planting service. Sending a card sounds fantastic as a lot of us couldn't attend a ceremony or the reunions. The book is excellent too. Great ideas people. |

OK-have got someone in the printing business onto the photo-picture case. He wants to actually merge all the photos (I was thinking of simply sticking them in a frame) and he wants the Grove logo too. Most of the pictures I have are from the latter re-unions,so again,if ANYONE has actual Grove pictures from 'back in the day' either scan them or post them to me. Time is a runnin' out... (Thanks for those already sent) |

Like the idea of the book of signatures...started my own at the last Halloween reunion and really enjoyed looking over the comments the next day. Even managed to get Cecil to sign on the night! Must try to get a few more names on the 40th reunion night.
