I thought maybe we could start a topic on hill walking. I do a bit plus I know some of the other forum members are getting into shape as well at the moment. GPS has made sharing routes very easy, I upload routes i walk on internet on several sites and anyone can have a look and do it. So i thought I would put some up here and maybe other members have favourite walks they would like to share. So today i walked djouce from djouce woods, it was a lovely evening, think i may have even got a bit of colour. Only met 6 other walkers today. http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/ireland/enniskerry/702253853 underneath map is a button to show elevation of walk. Edited by tupelopenny |

Great idea TP........ we are always looking for new routes to walk and for HD take his photo's....and it beats sitting in a smelly ol pub on a Sunday afternoon. My brother met his wife while hill walking in Wicklow, and to this day they still go off most weekends with their baby in tow.
Last interesting walk we had was in Dun na Ri Forest Park in co Cavan, fantastic place with lots of secret trails for the kids and a river running through the middle of it. Would recommend a day trip to it. ![]() |

Great idea - love hillwalking just don't get to do it very often these days. Will get these kids measured for their walking boots asap though (probably should wait until the very little fella can walk though!) Last walk I did was Lugnaquilla, over two and half years ago now - shameful. TP - is it yourself I saw on another thread who's doing the camino? |

Tp You should come down to Kerry to do Brandon or the Reeks walk. Now that the weather is getter a bit better ( not much) Brandon from the Faha side is a really nice walk - I would leave the reeks until later in the year. Anyway You are welcome - I will provide Tea / Soup if required |

Cheers Mary, I was down in castlegregory for a wedding on st patricks weekend, and we got a bit in that weekend, walked brandon from saints way (stations of cross), glenaboo valley, and castlegregory beach walk (24km). Loved it down there and i am hoping to go back in summer for more. We were very lucky on brandon, as we climbed the mist cleared and we got amazing views from top. |

Nice idea for a thread! Unfortunately, I don't get to go up to Wicklow as much as I'd like to these days. Last time I was up was on a drive with herself a while back and decided to walk up to the top of Kippure. Citing boredom as a reason, she turned back halfway up but as I later found out, it was actually gross unfitness that had led to her refusal at the first fence! Most of the time I'll go up on the bike. Past the Yellow House in Rathfarnam, up Killakee and then continue on to the T-junction outside Glencree. It's really beautiful on a summers morning, climbing through the clouds until you're at the top, just you, the peaks, the valleys and of course, the sheep! Baaaa! If the wind's not too bad (it can be like hell on earth up there on a bike if it's howling badly), I'll continue on up to the Sally Gap. Otherwise, it's an exhilarating bomb down into Enniskerry! I'd do it everyday if I could! I'm actually planning a day out hiking soon in Wicklow possibly taking in some of the Wicklow Way from Marlay Park. Anyone got any recommendations? |

Half my life I spend deciding if the other half is all that exciting...

Used to do a lot of walking and cycling, although as anyone knows me will know me it was a long time ago. Used to cycle from Clontarf out to Enniskerry, or on up to either the hostel at Knockree or Glencree, Stay overnight. Following day to Glendalough. Stay a day or two and then via Rathdrum to Aughavanagh over to Balinclea and home

Good one TP, makes me feel like I should be getting out there!
looking forward to checking out more of your routes. M Dave, If TP can recommend some GPS units, check prices on komplett.ie and pixmania.ie - I've got other gadgets from both and the prices and service are good! p.s. I always thought you were in Manhattan NY - is your name a reference to the 'Hat' in Raheny? |

http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/ireland/dublin/349204148 Fridays walk, another one that you can do on public transport or with one car as its a loop. Bit of road walking at start and finish. Weather was great on friday, looked like we were going to get rain, but held off. Manhattan Dave - for GPS i use https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=349&locale=en_US i just like the way its a watch and you dont have to mind it. They are fairly cheap at moment as a new model 405 is being launched this month. |
