Seemingly while working in Frisco on the album Rory went to winterland
for the now infamous Sex Pistols gig so impressed with the energy of the
Pistols on stage Rory decided he wanted to get back to the 3 piece line
and so he scrapped the band got the 3 piece together and wrote 'Brute
Force and Ignorance" as a homage to the energy of the Pistols.

Notes from San Francisco the lost album was to be the one to break Rory
in the states using a brass section and other instruments on the album to
make the sound bigger.
Rory attended at least one mixing session for the album commenting "I
dont like the Hi-Hat sound" left the studio and never returned to the
album.
All I know is its new and its Rory BRING IT ON

Cheers,

Pat james

I assume we will hear a good blast of it on Nova on the Sunday night after it is released?

Hi All trying my hardest to get an advance copy but these days the record
companies tend to hold on to the new stuff, but i also have the de-luxe
edition on order in Freebird. But as soon as a copy falls into my hands it
shall be played.

Cheers,

Pat

Rory Gallagher - Notes From San Francisco (2CD)

In November 1977, after completing a 6 month world tour, Rory Gallagher and his band flew straight from their last show in Japan to San Francisco to begin working on a new album, with famed American producer Elliot Mazer (Neil Young – 'Harvest', Janis Joplin – 'Cheap Thrills', The Band – 'The Last Waltz'). Mazer recalls that the sessions grew “tense”, as Gallagher wasn’t happy with the mixing process, describing them as “too complicated”, and by the end of January 1978 he shelved the whole record and broke up his band of the past 5 years.

This lost studio material is to be released for the first time this year on "Notes From San Francisco," a representation of the album that would have been released between ‘Calling Card’ and ‘Photo Finish.’ The new mix of the material was overseen by Rory's nephew, Daniel Gallagher.

CD 2 is a blistering live album taken from four nights at The Old Waldorf, San Francisco December 1979, performed by Rory's three-piece lineup including Gerry McAvoy (bass) and Ted McKenna (drums). Daniel Gallagher chose to add the live side to highlight why Rory chose to shelve the studio album and reduce his band back down to a three piece.

noooo! just saw this, missed it
should have it in the post soon though

*Edit -
just heard Fuel To The Fire, and first impression: Love it.
Hearing the first few bars, I thought it the track was going to be over produced or very different, but no, that's Rory and his Guitar.
Love the production, and that's only one track!

Looking forward to Bullfrog Blues, recorded December '79, when I retired from the Grove.
Probably my favourite track that Cecil finished with on the Sunday nights.. (from '72 Live in Europe)

woohoo - I'm expecting postards from San Francisco.

(I read that the postcards are copies of postcards Rory sent to his mum)

Listen for a track or two on Nova on Sunday night.
