"The Rat-Pit" - Patrick MacGill
Set in Ireland and Scotland in the early 1900's and based on real events. The book is a tragic story of one Donegal girl who leaves Ireland hoping to find a better life across the water. A tragic life of poverty and misfortune ensues. Grim reading but fact based portrayal of the Irish immigrant6 experience in Scotland. |

"Holy Terrors" - Michael Clemenger
True life story of the author's horrendous experience in St Joseph's Industrial School in Tralee and the abuse he suffered at the hands of the Christian Brothers there. And how that experience affected him after he left that institution. Reading this made my blood boil at the shocking treatment he received at the hands of these evil Christian Brothers. Very funny but also quite serious. Life in Dublin in the 50's and 60's was really tough. |

Tuesdays with Morrie[edit]
Albom's breakthrough book came about after a friend of his viewed Morrie Schwartz's interview with Ted Koppel on ABC News Nightline in 1995, in which Schwartz, a sociology professor, spoke about living and dying with a terminal disease, ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease). Albom, who had been close with Schwartz during his college years at Brandeis, felt guilty about not keeping in touch so he reconnected with his former professor, visiting him in suburban Boston and eventually coming every Tuesday for discussions about life and death. Albom, seeking a way to pay for Schwartz's medical bills, sought out a publisher for a book about their visits. Although rejected by numerous publishing houses, Doubleday accepted the idea shortly before Schwartz's death, and Albom was able to fulfill his wish to pay Schwartz's bills.[14] |

Reading "The Lies of Locke Lamora" series by Scott Lynch. A gritty, urban, fantasy series. Really, really, enjoying them (on book 2 at the minute).
