Hi everyone, I started a thread some time back about "your fondest memory of the Grove" (and I think everyone has loads of those) but I was just wondering if anyone has any memories that they are less than fond of. I'm not referring to the Grove as such (although if you have one then post away) but more, I suppose, bad memories/experiences within the place. The one that springs to my mind (even though I can laugh about it now) is when a girl I was with "went to the loo" and I waited like a wally for about an hour for her to come back...saw her later on, heading out the door, arm in arm with some other fella.... Anyone else want to share their bad memories....?? |

Not so much a bad memory of the Grove itself but more about heading there. I remember walking to the Grove through Harmonstown and copping a hiding from a bunch of skin-head types because of the long hair and clothes I had.

I have no bad memories at all..not one that I can remember. I am sure there were many embarrassing times but all pale into insignificance now with maturity ( to be debated !!
Most of the embarrassing moments would have undoubtably involved Slow Sets, being asked up by a goon with your mob of girlies laughing on or not being asked up and left standing on your own like the ugly stick. Always had a packet of More Menthol for moments like those. I do rememeber getting plastered once in town ( really - how odd..) .. and I made it past the "suits" at the door. Headed to the alcove and proceeded to bawl my eyes out saying " No one loved me " and " I only want X person ". I think I gave everyone a fright actually and they spent the night searching for my boyfriend who arrived just as I passed out. What is worse is one of my friends whom I rendezvous with when and if I get home, still wants to know what was wrong with me !!!!??? Hmmmm..cider my dear girl..cider.... Boring but that was me.... |

Only bad experience (Could be a long story here!!!) A few of us coming home one New Years eve coming up through Killester near the cabbage patch field. A gang of lads came around the corner started giving of the lads with us grief and swung a bike at him. My mate said something and ran well your scumbag ran after him, my adrenaline took over and I ran after the other guy. All I remember is 5 or 6 of them ran after me caught and dragged me to the ground. All I remember is look at 10 feet with 5 of them laying kicks into my face. Literally got my teeth kicked in lost my front tooth and 5 others chipped. Finally got them all fixed about 6 years later... If you aren't bored yet... I couldn't remember any descripition of any of the scum but I was giving a nickname of one of the from other friends wwho ran into them before us and I also had a real name of someone who was a know little troublemaker. Well the two names became the same person all I needed was a face. Playing snooker one night in the Silver Swan and he was pointed out to me and I was staring at him but I couldn't remember if it was him. Because I was staring his mate comes over to me twice asking me "What are ya looking at"... I told him I thought I knew him and told him I thought it was him and his mates that hopped us on New Years Eve... Well they nearly "pooo'd" themselves and denied it all. About 8 or 9 years later I met the guy who Nickname/Realname I had out in Tamangos and the place was packed and we had squeeze by each other and he had the cheek to say "Hey ya hows it going" I told him "Don't you speak or look at me and pointed to my teeth and said I don't forget and what goes around comes around so watch your back" When I hold I keep that grudge for life... Would love to see him again just as a reminder ![]() ... Hope I didn't bore ya thats the edited down version of the story P |

I think I've told this before somewhere else but my worst memory of the Grove was when I started to go first and my dad used to collect me at midnight. I was on my way out to meet him when I was asked to dance by a gorgeous looking boy. I weighed up the consequences and decided it was worth it. Mid dance I see my father walking onto the stage - cap on, steel cap boots and pipe in hand - over he goes to Cecil who then announces 'Grainne Adams your daddy is waiting for you!!!' I crawled out the door and of course was in trouble - My dad told me I wasn't going the next week to which I responded ' I know! I am never going again!!! so don't worry!' |

Worst memory for me was before we got our memberships and we would spend all day long getting ready, leave our house at 7pm ( remember I lived far away from St Paul's ) arrive at the grove around 8pm queue up for an hour sometimes in the wind and rain and snow, only to be refused cos we had no membership
....happest memory was getting my membership

One of the worst nights I remember was when I went round to a friends house in Artane beforehand to have our few drinks. I was offered some Southern Comfort which I'd never had before and tossed it back, on top of the standard two cans of Ritz. The result was totally plastered Jen. How I got in the door, I don't know but I did. I went looking for my boyfriend (now my husband) and went up onto the stage to get a better vantage point. Spotted him down below, gave him a cheery wave and launched myself off the stage on top of him. And this was before crowd surfing was invented! Luckily he caught me but the entire night was a drunken haze which ended with us outside in the compound where I threw up on Brian's brand new desert boots. He never wore them again! Watching my then 'girlfriend' snogging a then 'mate' one Halloween night, onle to listen to them deny it for the rest of the night. This came up before on Teresa's 'unfaithful' thread. He owned up the next week when he was p--sed and said 'Martin (hic) I'm a Bo---x,I'm so (burp) sorry-c'mon-hit me-(hic) Hit me now' So I did. |

Charming altogether.. Wonder should we start the " Worst Teen Barf Ever " Thread. That might be in bad taste. I had some spectacular ones I am NOT proud to say and was the onlooker also. Southern Comfort by the way, makes me break out in a rash from head to toe. Very strange - have no idea why but a few sips makes me look as if I have hives and bites. Mins. PS: Jen was your hubbie a goth aswell at the time ??? Edited by Mins |

Floyd I commiserate completely, My then boyfriend asked me if I was going to the grove one nite, I wasn't feeling great so I said no and I would see him the next day. I had a change of heart and decided to go. I went in and sat on the stage looking for a few friends, then I spotted him with a very good friend of mine and they wer eating the face off each other. Ex boyfriend and ex girlfriend all in one go. I thought I was going to die - but he married her and I am happy for them. Just wish he had told me first.

Hahahahaha!! No, he was never into the whole goth 'look'. He liked it on me, liked the music but never wore the clothes. In fact, I had a tough job getting him out of those Dunnes Stores jumpers his granny used to buy him. Now he says he's 'grown out of' all the goth music. He likes blues music instead. Bleh! Jen |

Couple of worst memories.... Getting the sh*t kicked out of me walking home afterwards one sat... Losing my grove pass temporarily....(found it again about a week later, sticking out of a drain in St. Pauls. Don't know what posessed me to look there, or how it ended up in that place. What a relief ! Still have the card to this day) |
