Doo Wah Diddy Diddy-Manfred Mann Lazing on a Sunny Afternoon-Kinks Daydream-Lovin Spoonful Black is Black-Los Bravos Satisfaction -Stones Paperback Writer-Beatles I Can't Control Myself--Troggs Out of Time-Chris Farlowe Everywhere and Nowhere Baby -Jeff Beck Keep on Running -Spencer Davis Emily Play--Pink Floyd Whiter Shade of Pale -Procal Harum Don't correct me if these were not all out in the same year...Too lazy to Google and going by memory...memory fading fast |

Apart from the Gaeltacht (aged 10) which was great craic, my first dance was at O'Connell's (aged 16). Songs I remember were Stones - Brown Sugar and JJF. The highlight of the evening was being asked to dance by this goddess who remembered me from National school, aged 7. Whenever I hear Nights in White Satin I remember my first ever slow dance.

Ah BF, I was a shy and slight young man in those days. Had a terrible time with asthma from a young age and well into my teens. Was very conscious of my appearance as I was a quite small and thin for my age ![]() One of the reasons why I enjoy life to the fullest now. Have some years to make up for ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Some sort of 'disco' was held in the Community Centre, near St Brendans School, after one of the Artane Summer Projects one year. Think I was about 14 and was terrified to even talk to a girl!

PM, Loved the way you used the word "dance". ![]() I called the Grove a dance and now when I tell younger generations about The Grove and use the word "dance" it's alien to them. |

Jaz, I gotta give it to you now Pat. You sure are making up for it. I would be scared to death to sing on stage, but maybe because that's because I can't sing a note anyway. When Karaoke first hit here I swore would never sing and always said that if I did it would be at closing time....to empty the bar. Pogue and my older brother Jimbo were very good singers. But me..???????? Pogue you're a bollox. Edited by BrendanFella |

Good thread, I think my first dance was called a "hop" in St Josephs Youth Club in Raheny. Lady Madona was out at the time and I was 13, but The first dance as such was Sunday afternoons in the Baldoyle hall beside the church. It was called the Grange at the time. 3 to 6 as far as I can remember. Jenifer Eccles rings a bell and Whiter shade of pale might have been there as a slow set. ( I used to love thoes ). If I think of any more Ill add them, Cant remember that far back !!!! |
