"The Wild".

The beautiful Reese Witherspoon is fantastic in this film.

And there is some great snippets of great music in the soundtrack.

A must watch.

Driven to the edge by the loss of her beloved mother (Laura Dern), the dissolution of her marriage and a headlong dive into self-destructive behavior, Cheryl Strayed (Reese Witherspoon) makes a decision to halt her downward spiral and put her life back together again. With no outdoors experience, a heavy backpack and little else to go on but her own will, Cheryl sets out alone to hike the Pacific Crest Trail -- one of the country's longest and toughest through-trails

"Boundaries".

Excellent serious but funny movie.

Laura is a well-meaning single mother who is forced to drive her estranged pot-dealing father, Jack, from Texas to California, with her troubled son Henry along for the ride. While Jack uses Henry and the road trip to help him distribute his copious supply of marijuana, Laura finally confronts Leonard - her dead-beat ex-husband.

Brilliant soundtrack cand scenery.

Christopher Plummer is the father. Peter Fonda also features in a scene.

"Redeeming Love"

A good movie set in 1800's California about a good farmer man who falls in love with a prostitute who's had a really cruel past. Watchable love story.

Gerry,

Hillbilly Elligy was partly what you say but it was criticized because it portrayed Appalachian people as no good and lazy layabouts.

Pretty much what you see in the movie.

I'm enjoying all your little movie snapshots Pat. I see you enjoyed Hillbilly Elegy. That film seems to be have been a bit controversial in that (I think I read) it was seen as portraying nostalgia for a Conservative, closed-minded kind of American culture that wouldn't have tolerated blacks, "strangers", even women very well. A kinda society that Trump wants to bring back. I don't know if that's what it did portray but it's a film I definitely intend to watch at some stage.
Do you reckon that's what was portrayed by the film or did I read a load of old garbage about it?!! Confused

"Malbatt"

First movie of 2024 last night.

Super movie based on true facts about the Malaysian army's heroic efforts to save US troops trapped by insurgents in Mogadishu in 1993 during the "Black Hawk Down" incident.

Their success was shamefully not recognized by the USA until 20 years later.

"Can You See Us"

An incredibly moving true lifemovie.

A 2022 film highlighting the plight of a person with albinism in Zambia is streaming on Netflix. β€œCan You See Us” is based on the true story of a boy who becomes a successful musician despite obstacles caused by his genetic condition.

"The Craigslist Killer"

Based on a true story.

Following the dark and haunting tale of Philip Markoff, a promising young med student who began a series of brutal attacks and murders.

"Red Rocket"

Mikey Saber -- charismatic con man and washed-up porn star -- plots his return to the big time from small-town Texas in this story of an American hustler and a hometown that barely tolerates him.

Brilliant movie.

"The Killer".

This is excellent.

The new Netflix movie The Killer is a stylish new thriller starring Michael Fassbender as a stoic and ruthlessly efficient international hitman. When a hit goes wrong, his very detached and methodical life begins to fall apart. The film from director David Fincher and also features Tilda Swinton.

If you like The Smiths they feature on the soundtrack.

"Hillbilly Elegy".

An urgent phone call pulls a Yale Law student back to his Ohio hometown, where he reflects on three generations of family history and his own future.

Amy Adams, Glenn Close and Gabriel Basso star in a film from Oscar winner Ron Howard, based on J.D. Vance's bestselling memoir.

This is a super movie.

"Pain Hustlers"

Based on true facts.

After losing her job, a woman who's struggling to raise her daughter takes a job out of desperation. She begins work at a failing pharmaceutical startup, but what she doesn't anticipate is the dangerous racketeering opioid fraud scheme she's suddenly entered.

"Belfast"

A nine-year-old boy experiences love, laughter, and loss as he comes of age amid the music and social tumult of the late 1960s.

Absolutely true life movie set in the late 60's Belfast at the beginning of the "Troubles"

Good soundtrack as well.

Naturally Van Morrison features.

Sean, it was the 1987 version. Dreadful stuff, no continuity between scenes, awful acting, worse "special effects"...
