A rose has come out in my back garden.
I saw what looked like a dragonfly yesterday buzzing about in the sun. Bloody starling is starting to nest in my neighbour's gutter. Every f**kin' year it does this. Early this year but it sh*ts all over my car |

The state of New York is to turn off non-essential lights in state-run buildings to help birds navigate their migratory routes in spring and autumn. Migrating birds are believed to use stars to navigate but they can be disorientated by electric lights, causing them to crash into buildings. The phenomenon, known as "fatal light attraction", is estimated to kill up to one billion birds a year in the US. Millions of birds migrate through New York along the Atlantic Flyway route. Now those passing over the city by night will stand a better chance of making it further north. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Monday that bright outdoor lights will be turned off between 23:00 and dawn during peak migration seasons in spring and autumn. The state will join several well-known New York landmarks that have already signed up to the National Audubon Society's Lights Out programme, including the Rockefeller Centre, Chrysler Building and Time Warner Centre. |

Seeing a lot of bumble bee activity in my back garden recently. Particularly this version. It's great to see bees in the garden. Was watching a programme on BBC recently about the importance of bees to the whole environment. P.s this not my photo, taken from internet as an example.

I wondered how they keep the nest clean and then yesterday I caught one of the eaglets sticking its bum in the air and squirting a string about 6 feet away from the nest. Nature is amazing..of course it had to happen at lunchtime.

I think they might be holding off for a look between their legs before picking names. Maybe? .

It is a bit nervewracking allright, considering how wobbly they are on their little feet. One of them stood right on the edge looking down yesterday...I felt like going in there and giving him a little tap on the back just to teach him a lesson. Today he'll try it again on one leg

My blackbird is in full voice this last two weeks or so.
Love to listen to him and others around the estate. I see he has his female mate again. I wonder are they the same two that have been around my back garden for the last number of years? I see them raising chicks and wonder do the chicks go away when fully grown or do they replace the mother and father blackbirds? The reason I ask is that the male and female blackbird come right up to me in the garden as I'm sitting there and get stuck into the bread I leave for them. It's like they almost know me at this stage. |

most likely Pat ,they have a life span of 3-6 years ,and if you feed them regularly they can become very tame towards you ,they have been known to eat out of peoples hands ,,have to say I think they are one of the nicest singers in our gardens
they will be very busy now building there nests |
