As you may have noticed, I've upgraded the forum software to the latest version.
Whilst this include aesthetic changes, it also includes security changes.

However, there are still a few bits and pieces for me to change such as:

* the Groving Between field isn't currently usable
* the range of smileys has to be re-inserted

I've also set the following:
Time Interval Between Posts = 1 min
A Forum Member can Post a Maximum of 5 Posts in 8 minutes

If you notice any other items that need fixing or changing then please let us know.

Hi Killian....
Work in progress, I'm sure...but just to let you know I can read Private Room posts even when I'm not signed in.

Thanks.
They were obviously all reset to the new version's defaults but have been changed back.
If anyone had custom permissions set and they are missing, do please let me know.

Went into my profile and it looks like I can't add an avatar or a signature, am I right?

Went into my profile and I can't see where I can add an avatar or signature.

Also can you not edit a post anymore after you have posted it?

Just noticed post options and the drop down menu.

Uploading photos? Is it done the same? Testing 1/2/3 ......clicked on the "tree" icon..........no idea what to do next Cry

That five posts in eight minutes, why?

If I'm uploading photos this is going to be a pain...........and the one minute wait.

The spamming message will keep coming up.

Don't agree at all with these limitations. Please explain why? Members should be able to post as many posts as they like in as quick a time as they like............

As a regular user just pointing out some flaws ..............

Right :
The spam flood protection (posts within a certain time frame) has been disabled.

The "Back to top" link is still there - its the forum_posts.asp?TID=1069&PID=184344#top" rel="nofollow">Back to Top icon at the top right of each post. Are you wanting a text version of this?

Editing posts is now not time affected (it was limited to 30 mins by default with the new software)

The PMs should be ok now.

Each forum will list post from the last month by default.

With regard to image uploads, this is now available (I had to upgrade the software licence for this).

Thanks Killian...................

As with any new upgrade the users will always find bugs and things that ain't working.

I spent some time going through the various actions that I would normally use and hence all my issues.

Thanks for sorting them and I'll let you know if I find anymore, as I'm sure the other folks will as well.

Pats Bugging me can we do anything about him Tongue

I like the chat room it automathically takes your username unlike the old one. Only thing it doesn't let you know if there is someone in the chatroom already, don't know if you can do anything about that ?. I know chatroom was hardly used in the past it sems more user friendlier now

Viagra is on the spam list whereby posts have to be approved before they are made visible to others.
It should also be harder for automated systems to register. However, there isn't much stopping someone paid 1c per day in India from doing it (which is the way the buggers are going).

KB,

Perhaps the day and date (i.e 4 Aug) for a birthday should be used to highlight somebody's birthday.

Maybe not a good idea to show the age of the person. Perhaps under Birthday's Today just show the name.

Personally it doesn't bother me but it might some other members.

If you are looking at the part of the home page that lists the different forum names, then click the icon to the right of the last poster details.
If you are looking at the "Latest Forum Posts" towards the bottom of the forum homepage, then click the topic link.

If people want to hide their age, then they can set the year to 1980 or something.
Its not a mandatory field and mods would still be able to see it so people's perception of data protection may not be the reality.

OK KB.

When I click on a topic, say "Chat Room" and click on the latest page number, it's not taking me to the bottom so that I can add a post.

It's hanging and I get this message at the bottom about "transferring....from twitter" or something to that effect. Same happened in this thread. I had to click !quote" to allow me post here.

It's drivin me mad AngryAngry

If you look at the image below (taken from the new posts page but the same links appear on the main forum listing page) there are a number of links

* Clicking on a page number link (red) brings you to the top of that page.
* Clicking the arrow on the rightmost side (in green above) brings you to the last post in that thread (bottom of page). The image may also be in grey if you have already read the last post in that thread.
* The link in orange above brings you to the top of page one of that thread.
* Clicking the link above boxed in blue (if present) will bring you to the start of the posts in that thread that have appeared since your last visit.

Am sorry but this new version is just not up to the original version.

I am sick and tired trying to enter a thread by what ever means and failing to do so.

Click this and click that...........nothing............go back to the  "Forum Home" at the top of the page and try again.

I tolerated it for long..............

Sorry, as a frequent USER it's really beginning to frustrate me.

Well we haven't had any nasties trying to join like we had a few months ago.
So it has been a sucess in that regard.
It takes a bit of getting use to
I would like the original smilies back.
And maybe  if a "like "icon was introduced under every reply or comment
It would let people know that your comment or reply was 1. Read 2. whether you liked it or not.
I'm probably not explaining it well here.
But then again  maybe there is a danger that people won't reply by words, they will just click on the like icon or dislike icon .
I am just putting it there as a sugestion as a thought

I like your idea Dondon......I might not post as often as I should, but I still check by the site everyday to see whats happening. And if there was a "like" button ( just like Facebook) I would probably click it, to let people know that their posts have been read

Am not knocking Killian and all his work on upgrading the system.

I just seem to be having major hassle accessing threads.

And I don't think this version is as user friendly as the previous one.

Actually, FAO Killian, I note that the newest 'member' on the site has some sort of weird series of letters/numbers as his username, leading me to suspect that s/he isnt a real person.  How do we (as Moderators) access the newest 'members' list and delete the offending individual if appropriate, in this new set-up?

Cheers,

Mel.

Not sure if another dodgy member but he lists his name as "xinfan kelian" and his username as xinfan.  Sounds dodgy to me.

Can anybody find the "Movies" thread for me?

I also see that threads that were started by members are being credited to other members.

It seems like things have got mixed up here.

I can use the site no problem but Facebook won't start up on the iPod.

I've just had to log off again and start all over because the site just keeps hanging.

Again I stress all other applications are fine.

I have Mozilla Firefox and if that's a reason that's causing my problems on the Grove website then I wish someone would tell me.

I haven't used Firefox for a years - can you clear out the cache under one of the menus?

or try running http://www.piriform.com/CCLEANER" rel="nofollow - ccleaner (free to download) it clears out lots of temporary internet files.
I run it on the Windows machines every week or two.

Where's the link to the Gallery of photos?

I was talking to a friend who went to the last reunion and wanted to see the photos.

Pat, if you go to this site's outer page (the pic of the blackboard in the classroom), there's a link to the Photo Gallery there.
