Oh dear oh deary me. You have brought back a memory that I spent years of therapy trying to erase. Sister Eleanor, sitting at the Hammond organ, just slightly off to the left of the stage. With a beaming smile and round of applause, she would hold up her hand - three fingers stretched out. The dreaded letter "E". Encore. Thus the audience started to learn that if you clapped, the song got repeated. As the show wore own, there was less and less clapping.

Now that I think back on it, it seems funnier in hindsight.

Jackie not 75 but 81-82 I believe when your sister Kay and I tried out for the sing out!!! right in front of Sr. Eleanor herself - we each sang a little ditty and then proceeded to do our well practiced dance side by side.  When we were finished Sr. herself turned and asked "now can you do your dance"?? Both Kay and I looked at each other and both said "That was it"!!! Needless to say we did not qualify -

Messer’s were barred from the sing out.

After I finished school I went onto train in the college of music for vocal training - but I suppose having been throw out of the choir also I had little chance of making a come back for the sing out.  I did however enjoy many a good night at the sing out social club on Friday nights.

one of my memories of this era was the outfits we had for singout - the purple pinafores - to make them swing out more when we were dancing the nuns got us to sew 1p pieces around the hems - they swung so much we had to dye matching granny knickers to wear underneath.............

Ah, but the rivalry between Singout 75 (yours) and 77 (mine) clearly lives on! Ours was so artistically superior, t'would boggle the most Bohemian mind. I'm just glad it all happened before the Internet age. I don't think I could handle seeing JPGs of us looking the way we did.

My Mom just lives up the road from the Shieling; she'll have to represent us all as she attended the original Belgrove itself. She'll hoist a few for us all I imagine.

OK it is now sort of confirmed that I'm probably the only one from singout 75 that has attended the grove reunions or has logged on to the site r else you are out there and don't want to admit your age.  For those of you that are reading but not replying don't forget the Manor House class of 76 reunion happening in May (30 years - - ahh!!!!!!) - better start acting my age about now so......... if Martina Mc Carthy and the kelly sisters don't have a contact number for you then you can give it to me so that you get the details.

cheers - Jackie

Sorry Jackie,

I can't help. I went to Holy Rosary. Had a nun similar to yours. Thank God I could sing so didn't get much hassle from her!!
