We are Pat, thanks. The playback os something we have found to be quite popular, there are a number of listeners that Friday night doesnt suit for a variety of reasons. Its also good for us to hear what it sounds like and I for one am trying to learn and improve the presentation. So win win. That photo of me with Bob Gekdof, referred to on the show, was taken outside Leixlip Castle back in March 1980. The Boomtown Rats were banned from playing in Leopardstown race course and had to find a new location. Owner of Leixlip Castle Desmond Guinness came to the rescue making his "back garden" in his castle available. Lot more to this story. Anyway I got to grab Bob and get that photo. Thats great Pat. I remember seeing a documentary on it. It was touch and go whether a new venue could be found. Geldof felt the establishment were against him. I could be wrong, but i think he said he wrote Banana republic at the time. I got to see the rats a few yearals back and still impressive live I have to say. We saw the Rats a few times in Moran's hotel on the corner of Talbot Street and Gardiner Street, just before they got too big for pub venues. They were absolutely spectacular in that kind of small venue, one of the best I've seen...Geldof was amazing as a front man, he really was. ------------- One of its legs is both the same |

Boomtown Rats had some great songs. Agree Gerry, Geldof great front man. That "Banana Republic" song came in 1981 after the Leopardstown fiasco. They had 2 number one's around the time of their concert. "Rat Trap" and "Don't Like Mondays" as well as other great tracks. I think there was some hullabaloo about using s marquee that the Pope had used on his 1979 visit. Some nonsense anyway. And The Rats had played two sold out concerts in Belfast without any problems. Yeah Pat, Rats a super band. I'd reckon this a good thread to discuss bands, songs etc., on the playlists. Loved the choices of music on this show with Jon's master of sparkling wit thrown in. I always enjoyed the talking parts of past shows more than the classic music tunes but this was a bit different, both sides were very entertaining...even a few tunes that I was not familiar with and never quite made it big on this side of the pond. Great work! Thanks. The old David Byrne/Talking Heads intro also made it for me. He's been beating the same old horse with his songs over the years but they never really get old for me. I saw him live back in his Brazillian music days and didn't really appreciate his non-Heads stuff but I would pay to see his new "Utopia" show on Braodway (same as his traveling stage show of late but bared down to percussion with a couple of guitars thrown in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyJNJOyO5Hs" rel="nofollow - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kyJNJOyO5Hs

Re Kirsty's range: Yeh- I might have mentioned that based on her "Fairytale of NY" performance I bought Titanic Days and possibly listened to it once, I can't remember? --but I liked her version of "Days" even better than the original Davies version...coming from a non Kinks fan that hated LOLA and Waterloo Sunset and most of their other stuff. Question folks? When I replay the playlists the recording keeps being interrupted 😟😟 For example Frank's soul show stopped after one song but I clicked that 30+ button and it started again but stopped again. Even the show for Cecil stopped at 1hr 40min. I clicked on that 30+ button again and it continued till the end. I never noticed the 30+ button until now, and don't know what it is supposed to do? Pat- When I'm listening to the show I just click along the sound graph instead of using the progress button to go fast forward (won't let you go back). You can tell visually where songs start and stop so can skip through to the next song if you want ...or even better! for instance, when Gerry is in the studio and nattering on and on ?- well you can skip through those parts as well HAR! HAR!

While clicking buttons I noticed there is a Near FM subscription option $$ monthly??? that allows extra features like scrolling back etc. All above my head I can tell ya

Cheers Brian. Playlist looks super. Had some kind of outage here, broadband would only do its thing in short patches so missed the whole show dammit.
