FYI everyone, the website & forum are hosted with Blacknight who have been great over the years.
However, the Windows hosting package that the site is on is being discontinued at the end of July. Whilst I could move to one of their other packages, there are issues:-
* if I move from Windows to a Linux web server, the forum software simply won't work.
* if I remain on Windows, there would be a large monthly cost increase which I can't afford

This means that I need to move the site and forum to an alternative provider. I'm still looking into one that offers the same reliability and support as Blacknight (and who won't be discontinuing their Windows hosting in the short to medium term).

I'll keep you up-to-date as time goes on and whilst I don't envisage any issues, I'm just giving you the heads up now.

Killian.

I never realised that the upkeep of this marvelous site is costing you money.

Forgive my naivety.

What are the costs?

Hi Pat,
apols for the delay - just back from family hols where I tried to stay off the interweb as much as I could.
The current costs are not significant. However, I'm guessing as a result of Microsoft licencing, now costs would be rather large as I'd have to get a dedicated server a/c.
What I might do is move the site to a UK based host as this would allow me to continue as it is without the need for either large monthly costs or the need to manage a dedicated Windows server.
I'll keep you all in the loop over the coming weeks.

Fair play Killian,

Just to add my voice to Pats - if there are (in particular) once-off capital costs involved in any of this I am happy to lend my voice (and wallet) if you feel its appropriate.

Very much appreciate all the unsung work I am certain you are doing "under the bonnet" and also over the bonnet!!! Thank you, its very much appreciated.

Gerry

FYI all, I will lock the forum tonight so that I can move the database and files to a new server.
I will let you know when completed but the site could be offline for a day or two.

No problem Killian.

Thanks for the advance notice.

When it's back up do we just continue as before.

I always leave myself logged in. Will I need to login when the server change occurs?

And thanks as always for everything you do to keep our beloved site going. 👏👏👏
