Back in the good ole days when they were made from empty toilet rolls and washing up bottles and there was no Luas height restriction on the floats............ah yes the nostalgia of it all.

Seriously though agree with you on the boozing/puking/fighting stuff.

Ah Lenny, stop moaning and get yourself along to Croker for the All Ireland Club Finals,a great day's sporting entertainment.

No Puking, fighting or Parades only a fantastic occasion as it is the pinnacle of a Club Player's career.

Portumna v Newtownshandrum in the Hurling, followed by Salthill - Knocknacarra v St.Gall's in the football.

See ya there ???????????

Somehow I doubt it.

Would you believe Rolo, TBF and myself have debating whether to go - what price are tickets and they hard to get?  Will it be too cold for TLF in the stands do you think, and where the hell is Newtownwhachtamacallit?

...............Jeez Xgh,why didn't ya tell me on Friday.

I turned down some Premium Level tickets 'cos there is a big gang of us going and I didn't want to be seen as the fecking fecker who fecked off on his mates just so he could have a comfy seat and a few beers.

Check Ticketmaster for the prices and if you want to go you should be able to get tickets from the ticket office at the back of the Cusack Stand tomorrow.

PS it'll be Baltic tomorrow and Newtownshandrum is in Cork.

Well I didn't think of it till last night and to be honest I think it will be too cold for TLF. Now Premium level tickets would've been the business!

Thanks for the geography lesson.  What a silly name - apologies to anyone from Netownshandrum, wonder what the original Irish name is?

Watch the Hurling match on TG4 tomorrow and you'll get the Irish name................it'll be Baile Nua something or other probably something like " Seandroma ".

Ben and Jerry O'Connor the twins from the Cork team play for them. One captained Cork in 04 and the other was Man of the Match in 05 All Ireland.

Anyway, enjoy the weekend, whatever ya get up to.

http://www.christmas-graphics-plus.com/free/st-patricks-day-clip-art.html#graphics - The Wish

I caught a little leprechaun,
quite wise and very old and he said to me,
"You have one wish,
would you like my pot of gold?"

"No thank you," was my quick reply,
"But how about another...
A gift that's truly precious
and e
steemed above all others?"

He offered then some emeralds,
rubies, sapphires, pearls
and a ho
st of other treasures
that would make your senses whirl!

As I rejected all his list
his bright eyes flashed with fire
and, angrily, he said to me:
"What is it you desire?"

I said:

"A rainbow's far more beautiful
than its' supposed treasure
and the 'rainbow' that I'm wishing for
is priceless beyond measure.

"I'd like to have the dearest friends
a person ever had
to share in all the good times
and help me through the bad...

"To laugh and sing and joke with,
love and appreciate
as we live life's greate
st adventure
that would certainly be great!"

"Oh, now I know you're daft!" he said
as he ran off with his pot...
"to wa
ste your wish on something
you have already got!"

It is a beautiful sunny St Patrick's Day morning here in Galway and throughout Ireland, perfect conditions for viewers and participants in the many parades planned for cities, towns and villages across the country.

Here at the Irish Emigrant we send our best wishes to Irish people and the friends of Ireland around the globe.

We also take great pleasure in forwarding a copy of President Mary McAleese's St Patrick's Day message.

Liam

____________________________________________________________ _________

St Patrick's Day Greetings from President McAleese

Beannachtai na Feile Padraig ar chlann mhor dhomhanda na nGael, sa bhaile agus ar fud na cruinne, ar an la naisiunta ceiliurtha seo.

Warmest St Patrick's Day Greetings to everyone taking part in this happy festival celebration, in Ireland and around the world. This is our time for showcasing the spirit of the Irish through our wonderful culture and heritage, our gift for friendship and our love of life.

We will gather in both the most obvious and the most obscure of places under the patronage of St. Patrick, a man, an immigrant to Ireland whose life was one of outrageous hardship and outstanding endurance. The chances are that wherever the Irish, and their neighbours and friends gather this St. Patrick's Day they will be making a very determined effort to find joy in adversity and a moment of distraction from serious economic and financial worries that face our country and our world.

St Patrick's own personal story is one of facing into huge difficulties and hardships, not of his own making. His coping skills were sorely tested. In the Deer's Cry, the beautiful poem attributed to him he says, "I arise today, through a mighty strength". We have our own mighty strength, in the goodness, decency and hard work of so many individuals, in our uniquely strong and robust sense of community, in our history of overcoming hardship, our culture of welcome, our investment in peace and in our ability on St. Patrick's Day to be family to one another from Beijing to Bahrain and from Belfast to Bantry. We know that our patron saint would encourage us to work with each other, for each other and work through these difficulties to a better future for everyone.

Behind every St. Patrick's Day gathering wherever it is in the world there is a story of men and women who came together to celebrate being Irish, whether by birth or by association. They are part of a generations old tradition of volunteering help to one another, and of being community to one another. I thank all of them for the many ways in which they bring such noble and life-enhancing qualities into our world and for the fun, enjoyment and happy memories they help create for us through St. Patrick's Day 2009.

To each and every one of you, I wish a wonderful St. Patrick's festival. Enjoy every moment of it and may the spirit of St Patrick be with you and your families on this day and every day. May that mighty strength be yours as it was his.

MARY McALEESE

PRESIDENT OF IRELAND

ST PATRICK'S DAY MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT OF IRELAND, MARY MCALEESE

Beannachtai na Feile Padraig ar chlann mhor dhomhanda na nGael, sa bhaile agus ar fud na cruinne, ar ar la naisiunta ceiliurtha fein.

Warmest greetings to everyone who is celebrating Saint Patrick's Day 2010, wherever you are in the world.  On this day we set aside our problems and remember the joy in life that comes from good company and the celebration of a great culture. Saint Patrick's Day is a time for fun and laughter, for showcasing the best of the Irish and for demonstrating our pride in homeland and heritage. Saint Patrick's own life story is worth remembering during these tough times for he himself faced and overcame great personal hardship that tested him to the limits.  The family of the Gael gathers in his name in Ireland and in many diverse parts of the world.  We are lucky to have such a large global family.  It has proved itself to be a very precious and important resource in every generation. In recent years it has been an indispensable enabler of the Peace Process which is consolidating and strengthening little by little. Northern Ireland is enjoying the longest continuous period of devolved power-sharing since the Good Friday Agreement of 1998.  The recent Hillsborough Agreement was another significant step in the completion of devolution and represents an important milestone on the path to long-term stability and normalisation.  It took considerable generosity of spirit on all sides to secure this historic peace and we can look forward to the many benefits of a rapidly growing culture of good neighbourliness instead of wasteful division.

The commitment of our global Irish family is now being harnessed as never before with initiatives like the Farmleigh Conference and the new Global Irish Network, all intent on putting their talents and ideas at the service of Ireland's economic recovery.  Thanks to our global family the link with Ireland has been kept alive over generations and our culture introduced to countless millions throughout the world.  Saint Patrick's Day is marked and relished in a myriad of places in a celebration that is both local and global and that is quintessentially Irish yet warmly welcoming of friends from other cultures and traditions.  So whether you are parading down the street of a small rural Irish village or one of the largest cities in the world, Saint Patrick's Day parade is a shared celebration with the same deep pride and love of life and of community at its heart.

To every Irish person and to every friend of Ireland, I wish you a

happy and enjoyable Saint Patrick's Day 2010.
