Greetings Grover's
Can anyone remember the poster pictures that used to be on the walls of the "Old" Grove.
One I remember is Crosby Stills Nash and Young.
Help me out here. The old memory is fading. Think I enjoyed myself too much back in those days !!!

Know the feeling Pat! I generally couldn't focus on the walls let alone the posters.I do remember the one you mentioned- it was from the cover of an album by Crosby Stills Nash & Young called "Déjá vu" (1970) Cecil used to play "Our House" from it.I have a vague recollection of a Neil Young poster too from Harvest Moon.

I only went to the grove in the early 80's when it was in St Pauls but have to say I really enjoyed hearing about the old grove in the shed on the documentary last night...all those old photos were great, and I wonder who owned the diary all about when it was burnt down. There was no posters on the walls in st pauls so sorry timeflash can't help you out.

Maybe this topic needs a twist.
what posters did people have on their walls at home?
Be brave....
I had a poster of Middle earth and Led Zeppelin I had one or two others
but these would have been A4 size and changed from time to time.

I remember the blue eyeshadow well. I couldn't wear mascara, it went everywhere on me. Think I wore pink or red eyeshadow too.
Most of the posters on my wall where soccer stars (big fan) but did have a Neil Young one and Pink Floyd. Cos I was the only girl I had pink wallpaper that I tried to hide. Had posters everywhere!!!

Hey Muller, Welcome and glad you've found this site too! I'm afraid I was just after the 'old' Grove, but I'm sure Pat or others will remember those posters! I was at a work conference today and met a guy (hi BK!) who also went to Belgrove and hadn't heard about the site till now! CP.

Thanks CP. Pat and I used to hang around in small biker gang in those days. Great to see he is still biking. I remember the Saturdays just drinking tea in his neighbour's kitchen after goofing around with the bikes. I'm trying to get myself a vintage Honda CB750 (1970s edition) in the new year.

Gosh Blue Bell you sent me back in a time warp had forgotten all about 'Jackie' used to live for Thursdays when it came out that was before I lived for the Grove Sat Sun & Wed.
Did the blue eyeshadow for a while then progressed to black eyeliner with white shiney cream eyeshadow - must have looked a sight
Had the bedroom walls covered with Jackie Posters and one mega one of Marc Bolan

The newspaper ones were of Leonard Cohen and an early Dylan. The
Cohen one was actually a screenprint (Believe it or not I still have a copy and
will post it ). These were done by my little brother Tony. He started getting a
bit too adventurous. ABBA was a screenprint of a Batik (still have a print of
that too ) and Gilbert O Sullivan was a three dimensional thing made of
cardboard. My older brother Brendan probably did anything related to Pink
Floyd, Tull and them types. He was painting about one a week for a while. I
did a Mudslide Slim, Marsha Hunt a a few others...I imagine they all went
down in the fire?

Hi Pogue..
That is coming up as a link to the hosting site and not a direct link to the pic.
Did you choose the url code and NOT the IMG code?
I know with Photobucket, which I use, it gives you three codes to share the pic..the URL the TAG and the IMG and the only one that seems to work here is the URL link, so make sure that is the one you copied into the Add Image box.
Hope that makes some kind of sense

I cannot believe that there was an ABBA poster at the Grove in Belgrove. I remember the Leonard Cohen poster alright. At my 50th birthday party earlier this year I told the DJ that under no circumstances was he play any ABBA. Needless to say he let the cat out of the bag and my family conspired to arrange for various ABBA numbers to be played in between the great music he played.
However, I have a weakness for 60's pop music - Searchers, Foundations, Billy J Kramer and Tremeloes. Love the twist.

Yes. I was going to see them in Vicar St. The tickets were something like €70 and when I found our that Brian Poole was 65 that week I decided to give it a miss. I couldn't imagine him belting out "Do ya love me, now that I can dance" as they did 40 years ago. Gave it a miss. Did your brothers and sisters enjoy it?
The last gig I saw was Bryan Adams at the Point last year. Enjoyable but not exciting. Best was Queen in RDS circa 1978 with Freddie. Worst was Paul Simon in Johannesburg 1992.
I can't believe that the tickets for Pink Floyd are €95.

Thanks Teesy. In hindsight they look a bit amateurish but being only kids at
the time they earned a few brownie points with the girls. heheh
The story behind the ABBA one is that these posters were not commissioned
by Cecil or anyone else. Usually we just turned up with a poster of any
obscure artist and tried to flog them for a few bob. Most were swiped
directly from Melody Maker or Rolling Stone, something that looked cool and
easy to draw more than love of the popstar depicted. Cecil was a hard sell
and 99% of them ended up in the garbage or given away.
