Well Folks,
Last night was my first reunion and I must admit to being unsure beforehand as to whether going along was the right thing. Generally I like to leave the past as just that but nonetheless have very fond memories of my time in St. Pauls. Seeing the documentary on TV brought it all back and hearing all the contributors talking so honestly about their experience helped me to decide to go along last night. I wasn't disappointed. The music it goes without saying was great. But more so, I had forgotten the sense of belonging to something that was special. Last night made me very proud and I was very glad to have made the effort to go along. I went with a pal of mine who drove from Offaly straight there and back again afterwards. I only had to get home to Swords. Far play to all those who travelled long distances. I didn't get to meet many of you, but hope to rectify that next time. I also wanted to say well done to those who dressed up - I thought the guys in the 'Kiss' costumes were great. All in all a great night.
The Grove is dead - long live the Grove Reunion !
PS - hope the whiplash is not too sore today everyone....

What a great bunch of people. I must admit to a sense of trepidation when I got to the Sheiling but once in I met Mel and Roundy and within minutes I was introduced to so many. At times I just stood back and let the music wash over me. All I was short of hearing was Reelling in the Years - Steely Dan because it felt so good and almost like being back.
Also looking around and seeing so many people enjoying themselves. As Bluebell said at one point where can you go and khow every song being played. -all that was ommited from that comment was "and like every song".

Finno, you could always use another online photohosting service like Photobox Ireland http://www.photobox.ie/ - http://www.photobox.ie/ . Upload all the photos to an album, set it as public and give us the link.
You also have the option to have it as flash slideshow.
There is another one service called Flicker. I personally don't like Flicker and friends of mine use it, but there is a feature on it, that allows all your photos to seen by all and searchable.
Where as in photobox, only friends or those that you pass the link to (or who is given the link) has access to see your photos.
Right, I'm outta here and back to watching Most Haunted!

You could do, but isn't Photobucket mostly for embedding pics onto websites. I'm not sure if links can be used, but possibly. Bear in mind that a load of photos on the website is grand except for those that are still on dial up. Either suits me anyhow.
I know of another service called Imageshack and it is similar to Photobucket and I know the links can be placed onto a website.
I'm not that techy to know all the ins and outs of them all to be honest.
Personally speaking I like Photobox for a whole group of pics to be uploaded and Imageshack for single or a smaller no of pics, and especially the latter if I want something uploaded anonymously.

Yes Welcome Sister1. You're not alone! For myself and most of the people I spoke to last night, it was our first reunion too! You get the impression that everyone on the forum knows each other well- it was great to see all the familiar names meeting up! Finno, well done for taking so many photos and posting one already! Aurnia, ever helpful on the tech help! I meant to tell you Niall hasn't heard of Defabrik who you mentioned in another thread..

No worries, Roundy.
You are right, you do get the impression that a lot of the forum people know each other. However I don't exactly. I did though just found out last night that Estahlon and I know someone from college days as though we went to the same college more or less the same time, we didn't know each other.
Delia's sisters knows my pals and they are funny enough pals of This Burning Effigy - remember Sister1 we were talking about them some time ago.
A mate of Crusty knows one of my pals too. And I met up with someone that I hadn't seen since college, though we didn't know each other from Grove days and I don't think she's here.
Cheers on the techy bits. Sister1 keep posting and you'll have access to certain additional areas.
Actually maybe you Sister1 would remember a band going back from '86, called Defabrik. I'm not sure of the spelling as it's in German but they were a goth or industrial type. Ronán Harris was the singer I think and they played in the Olympia in the goth nights then. Ronán was over recently with his current band VNV Nation http://vnvnation.com/ - http://vnvnation.com/ . Friends of mine were the promoters for the gig.
Some pics are here http://www.sebastiandooris.com/gal/v/Photojournalism/Concerts+Musicians/VNVNation23-10-2006/ - http://www.sebastiandooris.com/gal/v/Photojournalism/Concert s+Musicians/VNVNation23-10-2006/

Hi Finno, really nice to meet you the other night. If you can get me a CD I can pass it onto Killian and he'll upload them into the gallery. If you're around town (Store St. area) at all, just drop it into The Isaac Butt Bar in an envelope F.A.O. Andy Colbert, I'll pick them up from there. Let me know if that doesn't suit and we can make other arrangements.
Thanks,
Crusty.

Actually..just a quick note on the pics. Remember that some people might not want their pics up online..especially if they are identified. Not a problem with me...post away..unless I'm naked or doing something illegal...hehehe!!
But I reckon if anyone is posting pics... just check with the main people in them first...they're not all as vain as me..

That would be great X..and would be the same for us... need to organise a sitter as well...
I know there was an attempt to do something already prior to the Re-Union and the Foggy Dew off Dame Street seemed to be the venue of choice...so maybe we can all get it organised this time before the next Re-union..which isn't all that far away now either

Lads the Nep has never closed..
Honest to god. Do ye not know!
It was renovated in about 97/98 - extended the ladies by 1 toilet and knocked down a few walls, threw up the paneglass fresco thingie. It got a lick of paint in oh er about 99-00. Then again a yr or 2 later..
Then when the smoking ban came in - the upstairs got renovated to encorporate a beer garden. Downstairs remained the same with the exception of another refit in the ladies - about bleedin time too and a few more walls went up and down! And another lick of paint.
Gone are the arty farty posters and ads for the Abbey on the walls though - it's all sports things up these days.
And it's no longer the spit on the floor type of place either.
They have though closed the Nep part I think for Mon and Tues as it's quiet..
But it's always been open for Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sunday nights.
Mind you saying that I haven't been in a few months. But mates of mine go in from time to time.
Now de yez remember the old Foggy? With the knock yerself out, ie mind da head step down into the loo's and squeezing past to let someone in! And don't get me started on the old Brux's, Bartley's and William Tell!

No haven't heard them sorry. Just was wondering had anyone. Ronan's current band is more dark industrial bordering on techno/ebm - not a zillion miles away current Front 242, FLA or even Nitzer Ebb. Defabrik probably never got to demo or just did a few tapes but nothing much else - like so many bands back then.
Anyone remember Jam Jar Jail? I saw them play in the Baggot way way back when a class mate of mine when I repeated the Leaving was in a band called Graphics. Graphics went onto be called Bawl and then Mark the singer went onto form the Pony Club.
I never got to see these but I believed they were good -
And The Garden Hasn't Changed Much? Same with House of Byron. But I did get to see Babylon The Bride a few times. Found out years later that an ex of mine's mate was the singer in the Bride and got them on tape.
Also got Tower Of Babel on tape and one of the 7" singles.
Sorry I'm hjacking the thread again! And don't get me started on the s*x god that is Fergal McKee!

Therapy? Haven't heard them in ages.. must dig out the cds. Nah the band were in existence way before that..
The gig in the Baggot Inn was back in 89. There was another band around then that I saw and nobody remembers them either. They were called Cherryblossom and were goth/indie and from Cabra. No-one has a clue about them except I know I saw them - Graphics were on the same bill in McGonagles that night. This would have been late 89 or early 90 as it was before The Mission gig in the SFX in 90 cause I do remember that! What a gig.. Oh and Simon was just so spiffy then!!
The Power of Dreams boys weren't bad either if I do remember correctly..!
