Used to get the 103 bus from Whitehall and get off the stop just before the Beachcomber pub. There was a little grassy area along there with an electrical generator thingy surrounded by trees and thats where I used to get hammered before the Grove. Ah savage days

I remember knocking back some vodka in the boys/mens jax behind the stage thinking I was so cool until Barry came crashing in.
Like an eejit I forgot that the big window in the cubicle looked out on the queue, Barry must've seen me and spoilt the party.
I was barred 'til Easter.
Luckily for me it happened sometime in march so i didn't have long to wait for my Grove fix.
Getting barred did wonders for my reputation though

Seriously...is ANYBODY having a swift one in the Park first?
(Maybe the idea of it sounds better than the reality of it)
I remember Jimmy Redmond (we remember Jimmy Redmond, right? Don't think he visits here unless incognito,or under a username I don't know) once said 'Don't know which I prefer more, going to the pub before the Grove,or Knacker Drinking before the Grove...'
Good on ya Jimmy.

Muller...trying to picture you...sure I know you as I'm a Brookwood Ave.exile. Knew a lot from Ennafort...
Morning Mins...so who's your buddy from Maywood? There was a good Grove contingency from there...my old friend Derek was going with one of the girls from Bettyglen or Maywood-they were surely Manor Farmers so you would probably know them.
I sense a PM coming on...
Yes-wasn't it amazing (and incredibly sad) how you would do ANYTHING to get that other person to notice you in the park or the Grove...if she would say hello or even smile at you it would crumble you...would sit there for hours hoping they would even know of your existence...

Yes....lists we must compare.
Knew some real stunners, that you and the mates MUST have noticed. A few of them were ringers for Stevie Nicks or anything of that high calibre look.
Perfect blonde shaggy hair ( natural at that to add insult to injury )..perfect figures..excellent wardrobe..always remember the black ponchos....
They were always in the company of BEAUTS....the closest Irish equivalent to Jim Morrisson ever...

Well, I did the Mini Marathon - and it went surprisingly well! I'm quite shocked at how well I felt afterwards....was sure I was going to keal over and crawl under the first bench I saw, but was feeling full of the joys of springs after it! (so maybe I am fitter than I thought all along!) - though do have a massive blister at the back of my heal (gals in the office say its the biggest they've every seen - bless 'em!).
Hope your wife got on well Floydman - hope you had the bath ready and waiting for her when she got home! Did it last time for the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind (who are a charity I try to support every year in some way shape or form as its a charity close to my heart) but as I already helped them out with their chrimbo card campaign, I decided this year to help the Animals - so did it for Cats Aid....They get little to no government funding and as I am a massive Animal lover I thought I'd give them a dig out this year. Will do it for the nippers next year to vary it.

Well done Floxi,
Will gladly sponsor you - so agree (apart from ISCPA) animal charitys are a forgotton thing in this country - the refuge centres do so much good and manage on so little. Friend of mine got a supper little fellow from Dogs Aid - the people running it are wonderful and manage on a pittance - all voluntary subscriptions.
Here is a formal request - anyone else out there will to sponsor Floxi??? Get off your Tayto Box BR and dig into your pocket, even if there is a hole in it - dig deep.

Brian & Trixie,
Great to hear you are both involved with Irish Guide Dogs for Blind and the Animal Dogs Aid - did you ever think of putting up a site for sale of Christmas Cards. Their cards & calenders are beautiful and you know your few bob is going to really worthwhile causes. Looking at a survey recently, stated best time to sell or organise for Christmas is any time after longest day of summer ie 21st June. Sounds commercial yet very practical - think of it - no hassle in Nov/Dec.
Delighted the holiday was a big hit for Lerato & yourself.
Best,

Thanks V, appreciate that. I sell most of my cards and calenders at work or in the local shops who always support me. I thing the IGDB web site offers all sorts of things, including Christmas cards and calenders.

Ditto to that for me too Brian....I sell the IGDB cards/calendars to all my work crew in the Hospital (along with the Family members - who are always great for forking out a few bob for such a fab charity!) - the IGDB website is really good Verona - you can purchase all of the cards / calendars and notelets you want through that if you prefer.
Yep, can hardly believe its June already - this year is flying! They'll be launching the new cards in September/October - thats only around the corner - scary!!!!

Well done Brian & Trixie - My father in law went blind at 40 tragically yet was one of the most multitalented, christian and inspiring people you could wish to meet, he continued to play golf (had a handicap of 2 before blindness) swim off the Forty Foot and much more. He lead an amazing life - bitterness never entered into it. Helen Keller (remember her books) was a great fan of his, I feel fortunate to have some of her beautiful writings to him.
Naturally, have a very soft spot for anything to do with blindness.

Helen Keller......loved that movie. What a fantastic lady she was. Your father in law must be very strong Verona, to loose your sight at 40yrs must be terrible.

Nope....that was originally called The refuge...haven't a clue what it's called now. Kitty Kiernan's is just a little way up Collins Avenue heading towards Whitehall. Short walk from the traffic lights.

Correct Jen..........and you don't really want to go there.
Now called Parnell Park House, think it's actually closed at the minute.

I'm sure they wouldn't-but I still think I'll get too cosy in the pub beforehand and will need a JCB to get me down to the Craobh...
Happy enough to meet in the hall early and stay there...let the members where they are...

I'm with Martin on this one for two reasons
1. I would enjoy the pub, any pub, so much I won't want to leave until just after this one
2. I want to see how the locals cope with having someone named posh in their club . Last time that happened was when they played Kilmacud I think. As for a Floyd, yeah Kilmacud again I'd reckon?
If the bar in the hall opens early - that's where I reckon we should all meet and mingle, but I shall follow wherever I'm told. I have to collect my ticket after all

I'M happy with the club too....nobody's going to want to leave a pub and then travel to the Craobh . Dont think members will be too unhappy to see the takings boosted either.
Oh...here's a pat on the back for all genuine Grovers!
I was buying tickets for a past reunion from reception in the Sheiling and the girl remarked....'You're from the Grove. You know they're just the best bunch of people...great nights and so nice to deal with!'
I had to agree, of course, but that wasn't difficult when it's true

Grovegirl, had the same experience at the reception desk at the Shieling myself once or twice.

Kitty's will be thronged that night anyway-I'm happy to stay in the club-but if everyone is going I'd love to meet up for a natter and a kit-kat and coke first.

Agree with the rest of you, it will be very hard to get everyone to move out of the pub. So the Club House it is then. What time are we gonna meet up then for our "cokes and kit kats".

Maybe the bar in CC would be best then, so all the members can get to put names to faces etc., rather than scattering us here and there.
On the Mini-bus, by the way, Martin, I will be in Clontarf most of that day at a Games convention so I wont be on the Groovy Grove bus from NCD.
