Okay..
Can´t say I have had the pleasure of owning a bike.....always had my " rear of the year" planted firmly on one as a pillion though...
I DO plan to get my Bike Licence before I am 40 and at least one flying lesson...those are the liggle goals for mise....
Anyhow....
A sample of Bikes I have travelled or sat on.....only a sample mind....I will add to it later............
Suzuki 185 ...Two Stroke Jobbie more fondly referred to as our " yellow heap of s**t ".
Had one memorable journey from Dublin to Waterville in Kerry, in of course atrocious weather conditions, and the battery fell off on the road.
Hmmmmm....I´m telling you...scummin´ it in those days....
Another one that springs to mind is a Ducati...
Some lunatic organic farmer in W Cork...don´t remember much else...it was red and went well.
Side car of some Russian made Black Bike..the Cossack of course...had a huge red star on the side of the coffin like side car....
I would lean left and right as you do, with open face helmet on the way to some barn of a pub in West Cork. Again always in some atrocious weather conditions. No wonder my eyes seemed to be permanently watery and glassy.
Driver was lunatic German chef with a Bismark style tache to go with the image...I sat in that thing so often.....too many times...always victim to the inclement weather and mmmmmmmmmiiiiiiiiiisty rain sweeping in off the Seven Heads Peninsula.
Honda Superdream Deluxe...250 CC.
Comfortable Bike
That took me all around Ireland, I even aquired a hot silver bike suit and proper boots ( still used the plastic bags inside though ). That served me well in college in Gaillimh.
One memorable trip was when some twit convinced me to wear one of those frame rugsacks on my back. It kept me upright for almost 10 hours....wonder where we were going...Donegal I think.
Needless to say, I had to be lifted off the bike and laid flat. Couldn´t bend for days. Being padded out like the Michelin woman didn´t help either. Again red eyes for days and always in atrocious weather conditions.
I have more stories and can be a bit more accurate regarding the bikes and types and so forth but duty calls in the form of dinner and homework.
Suffice to say that now, I only plant my rear end on the saddle when the sun is out and I don´t have to pad myself out so much. Enough is enough...after all...only so much a girl can take.
Want to know what bikes you guys ride...bikes only please and what hot chicks perch on the back...
Waiting as always....

Evening Mins,
I had a chopper when I was about 9yrs old and my uncle had a honda 50 when I was a bit younger than that. He used to take me for a ride on it up and down the road when he and my aunt came to babysit.
Does that count????

Motor bikes never did it for me......my brothers had two motor bikes when I was growing up, but to me they were just horrible, smelly, noisey and you were always freezing on them......although I must say I did like the look of Biker Pats motor bike on the documentary...but give me a car anyday

My first bike was a Kawasaki 350, one of only 2 in Ireland (Dave Kavanagh from Kincora Ave. had the other one). I thought I was in heaven having my own wheels until I nearly became a cropper a few months later. Still, it is true what the ad says "free with ever bike - you".
Biker Pat and our gang used to travel to Wexford at every opportunity. Tents and sleeping bags and off we'd go for a week-end of debauchery. The bikes were such a big pull with the chicks especially in those lazy days and long evenings by the beach. You would have to give your helmet to the girl you met and risk getting pulled by the gards (sounds painful) for not wearing one.

I certainly changed my tune and habits about bikes once the wee ones arrived.
It wouldn´t do now for Mammy to have a nasty accident...I guess I felt it would be downright irresponsible for me to be hopping up and down off of one, let alone himself. Just not the same now. In college and after school it was an affordable mode of transport and gave us a lot of freedom to go and do as we please..but now really just a toy to take out when the sun shines....
My hubbie loves bikes and that is his way of chilling out from stress kettle job. I have to accept it. I am 50/50 about it now..purely because of the weight of responsibility I feel towards the family...
Fair dues though, a couple of year back he took an Advanced Riders Course with the Met Police in London. Of course it was a great excuse to head away for the week-end driving the lean right, lean left roads through Snowdonia in Wales I know that, BUT he is the safer rider after that.
However, as we all know it is nearly always not YOU just the other idiots on the road half the time...
I do still like looking at bikes though and checking out reg´s and stuff. There are some really fine road bikes out there..and when it is sunny...you think...yep that´s the way to go...
It must be genetic as my 6 year old lad is bike crazy....cringe....now THERE is where I´ll put my foot down.
Now that I think of it there are loads of little chaps on trial bikes around near us. It must be the thing in Spain but I see so many up and down the trails where we live...little guys and also quad bikes by the bucket load.
Muy bien....

First bike in 1972 was a Yamaha 100cc. Great little machine with loads poke.
Then it was a Honda 175cc. Bought it off a priest, yes a priest, in St Pauls in 1973. Only time I was ever in St Pauls.
Then I got a new Honda 175 in 1974.
After that a gorgeous Honda 250cc, the one in the documentary where you see me lying back on a bike. That was in 1975.
Then the barren years till 1999.
I bought and still have a Honda Magna 750cc cruiser. Thats the one you see in the documentary.
I have driven various motorbikes in Thailand whilst on hols.
Until I die I will always ride, thats assuming I can get my leg over...motorbikes that is

My 1st bike in 1978 was a Suzuki B100p, that I drove to my 1st job - in Cavan; didn't know anything about bikes and put the wrong oil in it. It's still in Cavan!
Then a Honda 175 that I heard is still going strong,
then this lovely CB 750 Four I bought at a Garda auction in 1981.

Had a CB250 twin for a short while then a new CB250RS around 1984, sold that to Dave the Barman in the Nep, and got a Suzuki GSX400F. It's being lying up for 12 years, and soon to be restored...
Was never into speed, but toured the country on all those bikes. Good times. CP.

One of the many things i have not done in life is to ride a motorcycle. My

Mins - I swear that phone box was empty when the pic was taken!!!
No, It was around Liscannor, near the Cliffs of Moher, at a Holy Well and that's the B.V. Mary herself behind the glass. The well dates waaaaay before Christianity - an amazing place!
Pogue - I'd say your brother's bikes were lovely - never had a classic English bike! (yet?)

Hey Pogue. I bet they also spent a good deal on oil. RT's bike spelt the demise of the big Brit bikes. As a biker I always aspired to getting a CB750 much to the chargrin of my uncle who always had BSAs. I am seriously toying with the idea of getting a classic bike next year. male meno.. something I think. There are some great web sites extolling the virtues of these early superbikes. Maybe Santa will be kind.

The closest I have ever come to riding a motorbike was going on scooters in Cyprus and I can safely say never again.
I arrived over for second week of holliers with three others to join six lads already over there. First thing we did was to go down to get a bike.
I confessed to one mate that I had never driven a bike before and was a bit worried. No problem says he, I'd never either - but by the time you've gone 200 yards you'll be sorted.
Grand says I. And I was - 200 yards of plain sailing. Wind in the hair, feeling like a king. My confidence up, I decided to cross the road in a u-turn.
Confidence soon started plumetting. I wasn't turning enough so started to head straight for the shops on the other side of the road. In panic, I gripped the handles harder. This made the bike go faster seeing that I was squeezing the throttle. Still straight for the shop. Two women came out of the shop and saw me coming at them across the road. One ran left the other ran right.
I bounced up the kerb and onto the path. In front of my were several panes of glass. The only thought going through my mind was whether I would be able to cover the damage with my credit card. In sheer desparation, I took my hands off the handlebar and more or less covered my eyes. And the bike cut out.
I was about three yards from going into a restaurant unannounced. My mates in tears the other side of the road.
I then had to get back on and go all the way out to wherever we were going shaking like a leaf. No shortage of conversation that holiday - I've never been as close to the centre of attention before or since!

bikes, where would i be without bikes. (probably stuck in traffic)
anyway - its impossible to describe to non bikers the feeling of being on a bike. Its the only way I can find of being ine the now! Not thinking about what I have to do when I get home, or what happened in work earlier or last week, or what will I do at the weekend, but just purely thinking about what way your riding (no rude comments) - its the best form of relaxation i can find.

I was practically raised on the back of a bike. My father always had a bike (Still does)and sometimes used to collect me and my brother from school in Howth and drive us home to Donaghmede. Bro on the tank, me on the back. You wouldn´t get away with that today. When I was 16 I got the use of his Yamaha 100 twin and rode it every day until I crashed it. Lost interest in bikes until after I got married and I bought my dream bike, a 1983 Honda CB 750 F. Lovely machine. Travelled all over Denmark on that until I crashed it in 2004. I still hope to get a bike again at some stage.
Other bikes I have ridden;
Yamaha 400
Honda CB 500
Suzuki 250
Yamaha 600 Diversion
Honda Goldwing
BMW 1000
BMW 800 with sidecar (Lots of fun)
Honda shadow 500
Here are some pics of me on a road trip with my then neighbour. My honda 750 looks dwarfed next to his Goldwing. We got them both painted at the same time and got a deal for choosing the same colour.

I just came across this photo of me taken the day that my MC license arrived in the post, back in 1999. I had just passed my test a few days before and as you can see in the photo, I was as happy as the proverbial pig in sh*t.
I did my test in Denmark and I was really nervous, due to the fact that I had only been living there for four years at the time and my grasp of the language was a little shaky back then.
All this talk of bikes has got me interested again. Maybe I´ll get one for the summer.

Great bike Robbie63 hope u have good luck with it ,back on the bike myself after a break of about 15years .Driving a Fazer 600 at the moment have it about 3 years ,just love it .its an all rounder. The reason i packed the bikes in was because i watched my best mate been killed outright on the Naas Rd we were both coming back from Mondello Races.we were both driving 350 power-valves at the time. Had sold my bike within a week after that and thought i woud never sit on 1 again .It was my own daughter that convince me to try it out again as i never shut up talking about them as u say Lenny either u love them or hate them, and now i dont think i will ever be without 1 again

my sympathies to your friend Joey, that's terrible. I haven't driven a bike for about 12 years, but never lost the bug. My inactive 1984 GSX400 has followed me from house to house and is in the garage. my son often asks when it will be going, must make an effort this year to get it going or get one that does! Good luck Robbie on your new one.

Best of luck with the new bike, Robbie.
We also have an extra 'family member' in the garage...no sign of it ever moving out either. When we got married in '88, we went on honeymoon and 'that bike' was moved into the living room for the three weeks we were away!
Before we left, I suggested putting something under it incase there was a leak while we weren't there......I don't think I could've come up with a worse insult!

Jesus Mary, you should never insult a mans bike. Has his bike got a name. My old bike was called Rhonda (the Honda).I don´t know what I´ll call the new one. Any suggestions for a good name for a Suzuki?

Thanks everyone. I was out on it again today. It wasn´t as cold as yesterday. It´s a cool little bike, but I have to get used to the fact that it doesn´t have a huge amount of power. My last bike was a 750cc and was extremely powerful, and heavy. This bike is so light and easy to handle. It will be great fun in the summer.

Bikies stop machete-wielding robbers
Arjun Ramachandran February 28, 2008 - 10:12AM
It was very hard to see the expression on their faces because of the balaclavas, but I imagine it was something along lines of ‘Oh sh*t, what have we done here?’
An armed robbery at a bowling club in Sydney’s west came unstuck last night when the robbers were confronted by a bikie group socialising at the club.
Police said the robbers, allegedly armed with machetes, raided the Regents Park Sporting Club about 8.50pm yesterday, ordering people at the bar to lie on the floor.
But the robbers failed to notice 40 members of the Southern Cross Cruiser Club, gathered in the nearby auditorium.
“The two guys burst in with machetes and started waving them around and intimidating people,” said bikie club founder “The Bear”.
“They walked in to try and do a robbery and thought there’d just be people playing bingo and poker machines.
“But there were also 40 blokes there having a social night and it’s come unstuck for them.”
The robbers immediately fled on seeing the bikies approaching, with one smashing through a plate glass window, leaping off a five-metre balcony and running through a bowling green, and the other running behind the bar to the car park.
Club president Jerry van Cornwall and other members pursued the second man, with Mr van Cornwall crash-tackling him to the ground and restraining him until police arrived.
Police soon located the second robber nearby.
One of the robbers was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.
The Bear said the robbers appeared to instantly regret attempting the heist when they saw the bikers.
“It was one one of those stopped-time moments,” he said.
“It was very hard to see the expression on their faces because of the balaclavas, but I imagine it was something along lines of ‘Oh sh*t, what have we done here?’.”
Regents Park Sporting Club manager Eddie Kiosoff said the bikers had been regulars at the club for about a year, visiting a few nights a week.
“Hopefully we can have them here all the time now,” he joked.
Regents Park Sporting Club manager Eddie Kiosoff expressed his gratitude at the bikers’ bravery, and said he was considering “putting on a night” for them.
Families and elderly also present
Families and the elderly were also at the club last night, The Bear said.
“We’ve just have enough of this. This club’s been robbed numerous times.
“These guys with machetes weren’t too worried about waving them around and scaring ladies and other families socialising at club.
“I’m just so proud of the boys ... the morality of not putting up with this sort of thing.
“I think two or three of our guys should be put up for bravery awards taking on armed men.”
The Bear hoped the incident would correct misconceptions about bikers.
“Even on one of the news things we were credited as being Hell’s Angels, but we are far far from that.”

That's very good HT. Often in Australia you would see groups of bikers together and they could look very intimidating. Pity they had balaclavas on - wouldn't it be great to have seen their faces??

Big difference over here with bikers and bikies. Bikies are all out-lawed motorcycle gangs, eg. Devil's Disciples, God's Garbage, Coffin Cheaters and are not to be messed with. They run all the skimpys and strippers that are in a lot of pubs Fridays afternoons around 1pm till 5pm (so I'm told anyway ), deal drugs etc. etc. while bikers are just your everyday people with an interest with bikes.

Fester,You know too much of my past! been reading through the threads!
I went out with CELINE Donnelly from limewood! married the love of my
life , met her at the grove, and it has been a hell of a lifetime! First bike i
drove was a noddy, (whats that Pat?) well several. often a mish-mash of
bikes to get 1 to work! 2 CB 500 4's, one ex-cop, 1 cafe racer, (great fun
until the cam chain goes at 70 in a roundabout). CB 650 custom, CB 500
custom (drove that thing all over Ireland with the brave bitch on the back,
got away with a lot of drink driving in those days!) Norton Commando
750 Combat R WOW! Denepir Classic Solo MK II WOW is not the word to
describe this bike, but it COULD do 40 in reverse, found that out 1 nite
out of a carpark across the N2 with a drunk mate clinging to a black bag
full of beer cans! Kawasaki GT550, Suzuki Katana (NOT THE f**kING
SCOOTER) 1100, another noddy, an FSIE80 somewhere in there, FJ1200,
CBR 250RR, DR200 trials, and now due to the fact that I'm not absolutely
sure that I can heal as quickly when I meet the planet coming up to say a
brief hello, a modest Bandit 600S! I know there have been more but a lack
of brain cells has left me momenterally confused! Might also be the fact
that the kids aren't around & the box of pictures beckon!!! Some! give
me/us a hand, How DO we get pics on the site? Got some good ones,
really!

Thats quite a collection of bikes AndyC.
My first bike was a noddy as well. Never rode it though. Was in the process of getting it roadworthy when I decided (Or rather herself decided) to move to Denmark.
Bought a 1983 Honda CB 750 over here and rode that for a few years until the inevitable crash. After three years I decided to get a bike again and so I bought a Suzuki RV125 last year, to get back into it. Was hoping to upgrade to a Suzuki SV650 this year but the bank turned me down. Maybe next year.
By the way, bikes are horribly expensive in Denmark.

Robbie, try eBay. I bought my Kawasaki on eBay for €800. I had to buy new tyres and get the fork seals replaced. Otherwise it's great. It's a GPZ900 1985, a classic. I think if you try the German website you can get some really good deals.

AndyC its a small world mate, Stoner on here is an old neighbour of the Donnellys from Limewood and his sister hung around with Celine.
I just remembered you were a lunatic on the motor bikes as well, used to see you ripping up the Oscar Traynor on one while I was struggling along on the racer. I've dropped you a PM by the way so have a look in your Message Box.

Hi,
The last few week-ends havent been out cos I was away. Hubbie took it out for a run in between taking out his KLR and Honda. Hard life so he has.
I like it though but am still getting over my nervousness.
There are a lot of cobbled streets here and in one area I took a hill too slow and the bike conked and fell. Its heavy for a 125 and I fell with it. Major bruises on my knees and I was sore but I will know better in future.
Ordered one of those protection bars to protect the bike if it falls again.
Anyhow hopefully I`ll get out this week-end.
Tanx for asking..

Yeah you do but you see people without car plates and number plates all the time..
For example if you park illegally which of course is debatable in this part of the World, the Transito Policia come along with a screwdriver and unscrew your plate and then you have to locate which office did what and then pay your fine. That can take a while.....z.....zzzzzzzzzzz..
Additionally you have to renew these things often so really all part of the usual way to make money out of every little thing. We had to get new plates for 2 cars and 3 bikes there recently and we had only registered 3 of those vehicles a couple of months before...of course they didnt tell us to either hang on or give us a temp thing..
More zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.................
God have spent all morning cooking and pureeing food for the baby. Gets me 6 weeks or so of lunches and dinners for the chappie but it takes time...........
He`s thriving as a result of a good diet though and oddly enough he has a nice orange tinge to his skin..think its all the beta carotene from the Yams, Mango and Papaya...LOL.
Back to bikes.............
