Well Everyone,

What was the verdict on last night ?

Have to admit to being a little disappointed myself. I only caught the end of the 'poor boys' and they seemed really good. They didn't appear to get a great reception which was a pity. As Cecil said, he thought the response was lukewarm.

On the main event, I should also say that I had to leave around 12, so missed the last hour or so. This was my second reunion. The first was brilliant - great songs and good moshing. Last night (at least until 12 anyway) didn't seem to get going on the moshing front. Not complaining you understand - I realise there are 30 years of songs to get through. I guess for Halloween the choice just suited my taste. I also think its an advantage to have gone to the Grove in the later years as theres a good chance you will know most of the songs. At one point I was thinking, its a pity the 'Poor boys' didn't play from say 11-12 ! They would have gone down a storm.

Well I guess thats how it goes. The original Grove had mostly great nights with a few not so good ones. But the great ones made it worthwhile. I look forward to next year, possibly the 40th anniversary for hopefully another great night.

Hey All,
yes a great night indeed. As Rolo says in Chat, it was great meeting so many people; both the bar and the hall were full of Grovers!
The band were excellent and yes Sister, they would've gone down  really well playing 11-12!

A lot of the Grove music that I heard was a bit after my time, but all great music though.

You injured too Blondie? hope its not too bad- I feel bad about poking Mel in the eye! (total accident by the way)

I have to say it was a great night and everyone looked like they enjoyed it. The organisation and venue were first class. Have to agree with RT about the music but enjoyed Lynnard Skinnard by the W Boys and my little rince with my partner when we had the floor almost to ourselves. She didn't really get the whole thing but I appreciate her support which enhanced my enjoyment. The band was brillliant but they had finished by the time most people arrived.

Is that what moshing is? Those guys looked like they really had a good time but it should carry a health warning. I could never imagine myself doing that even in the good old long-haired days.

What an abs brilliant night. The Poor Boys were amazing and the moshing and headbanging, haven't done that in a very long time.I am paying the price today though.Yeah that bloke who was dancing on his own showing us his bedroom hips was so funny.

I did enjoy last night. But the music I thought was a bit boring not enough "Heavy Metal" but I did enjoy the moshes. 'Twas a good night.

Think the overall verdict on the night was that yes,it still was a great re-union but anybody I spoke to seemd to say they spent most of the night catching up with others instead of bopping on the floor. People probably were 'liquored out' from drinking on the past three days, work partys etc. Despite this,I still thought it was a great re-union even if it wasn't as mad as Halloween. Was glad to meet some other forum members as well as catch up with our own gang.

Don't think people are tiring of them just yet-already looking forward to the next one.

Yes it was a good night but felt the music mix was more after my time than Halloween was but still enjoyed the night.

And got to dance at the grove to Judie Tzuke with my wife at last!

Definitely a better night for me than Halloween. It was a little more subdued, but in a good way. Halloween melted my head. I'm sorry we didn't get to play a wider selection of music as other nights. But I think that was because it was a little slower getting going than previous reunions, so in an attempt to get things fired up, the more obvious "floor fillers" were selected. So, the next one being the 40 year anniversary, we'll have to not only get a bigger venue, but also one that will serve til 2:30am, giving us that extra hour and a half to fit in more "Metal", "Gothic" and earlier music. So, I'll put up a new topic under this section and see if anybody out there has a better suggestion than our current venue.

Happy New Year to one and all!

Thanks Crusty and Cecil.

Music was definitely more to my era. Finno I understand where you are coming from but the Halloween wasn't my era compared to the Easter one that I had been to. I enjoyed the latter non the less but the friends didn't as much as the others they had been to before.

It's a hard one for Crusty to do to keep all generations happy. I know and feel his pain on it on a different and dj level and believe me it's not easy to keep everyone happy with all the different genre's and ages out there.

Both Cecil and Crusty deserve a clap non the less.

Btw nice one on some Japan. Haven't heard them in ages. One friend that was thrilled - she was a newbie - and actually a Southsider or Westy if you want (Lucan) and she enjoyed the night throughly. She unlike myself had been to the Tribute nights in Radio City but completely felt the difference of the two.

The two of us were bopping - herself even rocking out to some of the heavier stuff which is a new departure for me 'cause in the 14 yrs that I know her, I've never seen her dance to Led Zep and Lynard Skinner et al. She was asking me did I do that back in the day and yep I did!

She did miss the mosh for Black Betty - smoke break. Typical but she got the mosh for Alternative Ulster, so she now knows how we all mosh over this side of the liffey! And she was screaming at Cecil for more.

We er ended up partnering up for the last song and gave each other a er twirl, which might have looked strange except we weren't the only girlies to do so!

For those that didn't know who the gang that I was with are or where we were - we were the bunch of er goths in black - 6 in all - 3 girls, 3 blokes that set up near the bar at the top of the stage - 5 of us are ex Grovers.

Band were excellent and got us in the mood! Well done. Wouldn't mind seeing them again at some stage.

Nice to meet you Russell eventually! Met Star, HD, Bluebell, Roundy, Finno and Rolo - it was yourself that waved and nodded at me - wasn't it? and Brunswick again!

Mr Snakehips will also go down in memory!

Oh and Flumphert - nice to meet you outside on the walk home! It was myself that the GF and yourself were talking to. Looking forward to that piccie!

I read somewhere that you are from Whitehall. Jaysus that's only down the road from me. Different era mind but still howdy!

Looking forward to the next reunion. St.Paul's perhaps? Please!!

Take care all, and have a good new yr's eve.

Orla

Well I'm afraid I was one of the people who chatted more than danced..hehehe!! But that didn't matter..I've danced my legs off at previous re-unions..but this time I wanted to catch up and chat..and take photos..and that's what I did. I still enjoyed the night every bit as others. It was great fun to people watch..especially since I wasn't drinking. The thing is...that is exactly what many nights in the Grove were like..it wasn't always about  coming home with  twisted neck syndrome..heheh!!

I loved the music as always...and I like that it varies...plus I actually like Goth and Punk and Mod and all the other styles that were played at the Grove.

Hats ..and wigs..off to Crusty and Cecil..another great night..onwards and upwards

I think last Wednesdays reunion was one of the best yet.....like HD I spent most of the night talking and people watching and had such a laugh watching what people were getting up to. I still sang to the music and loved the choice of songs and it was wonderful to wake up the next morning with no neck ache
As for what Aurnia said....wouldn't it be great to have the 40th anniversary of the grove in St Paul's....we wouldn't need to drink, we'd just be on a high to be back in that hall again.

Ahem!! Speak for yourself...one sober re-union a year is enough for me...

I'll be grabbing me bottle of JD and reliving the old days down the Annes (with quite a bit of company I'd imagine!!)...

Hi,

Back home just about...I am totally knackered. I need to go on a serious detox and also a diet looking at my pudge in some of those shots. HD...should have known better and avoided you when I saw the camera slung around your shoulders. Blinkinī hell.

I enjoyed the evening. My expectations were probably way off the radar though...what I was looking or searching for I guess I will never find (Deep moment time ).

I spotted immediately many of the regular posters...Finno, Roundie, Mel, HD and Floyd...it was funny to think of you lot as familiar even though I have never met yiz in person. Tonto....you do look like a " dancing with wolves" type so were DEAD easy to spot. Met Rolo briefly, had a chinwag with Stevie and Bluebell...yep was good alright.

Music was ok. Appreciate Crusties position ( can you believe when I went to say Hello to you I called you Croftie..help)...anyhow of course it is hard to cover all the tracks and generations and wishes, wants, needs and desires...defo...the pace picked up after 12 midnight so yes rocking til 02:30 would be good in my book.

Where was my " owner of a lonely heart?"..waaaah.

Can u just imagine a massive session in front of the mound in the Annes before a 40th Reunion ????!!!! How fab would that be....actually a massive open air Grove Concert, like a Lark in the Park thing would be great. Wishful thinking..would be ruined by the scangers...there were even some eejits at the Sheiling...who else spotted them.

Anyhow just a post to say I am alive and well. Happy New Year to everyone.

I had an eventful day gettin home yesterday to say the least. Plane delayed ex Dublin due to a tech error and then the woeful weather. Arrived mega late..bump, bang, crash all the way. Hassled at passport control ( first time ever !! ).." are these YOUR kids " type of questions..maybe it had to do with me wearing me PLO scarf and military coat..Tee Hee...
the bags came out last.. late being picked up...jumped into my clothes for an annoying Black Tie do and it went on and on....climaxed with a Spanish Band doing woeful covers of Cool and the Gang and Abba in very bad English...how much does one have to take.....pero bueno.....

Home now to my own bed and my gorgeous hubby who is NOT scoffing popcorn for once !!!!. Will drag him to the 40th do..I want to ssssssssssllllllllllow it down and not feel like a tool......

HAPPY NEW YEAR AGAIN.....GREAT to meet everyone...I enjoyed that very much....you lot are all NICE as hell.

All the best,

ME

We were speaking to him for a few minutes and he seemed a really nice bloke and loved the whole idea of the Reunions...

Just thought it might be interesting to some of ya..
