Howarya..
Anyone want to get the ball rolling on the best or worst Christmas Present you ever received that sticks out in memory.
Needless to say it could be something you actually received or something a little more to do with the emotions. Presents that were expected and received or not received as the case may be around the GROVE years would be good.
Iīm rackin the brains myself and will get back to you later.

The same year I got my Atari home computer...these were the rage in the 80's. Mel-you had the Commodore equivalent, right?
Played games for years with it.learned a bit of 'Basic Language' and made a bit on the side bootlegging games in school.
Had it until recently. Before my dad got his PC some years ago he asked me to set this Atari up so he could practise typing. It had a disk-drive (WOW) and it was like 'giving it back' to him.
He died two years ago and while clearing out his house there it was in his attic...couldn't bear to get rid of it.

Yeah, Martin - I went through the whole range of 'cheap' home computers back in the 80s - Spectrum 16k the Spectrum 48k the Commodore 64, then Amiga...
As to your question about pressies Mins, similar to Martin, the worst present I ever got was a deodorant/after shave kit (even though I had been sporting a beard for a few years up to this)....

My hubby sent me home a gift to Ireland once of shoes he bought me - they went back in the post the next day!!! they were sh*te.....

Siobhan got me a big 8 player poker table cover (one of them 'professional' ones) for the dining table this year and, even though I'm not very good at cards, everyone (from nieces, nephews, uncles etc.,) had a blast playing Texas Hold Em over the holidays..goes well with a few beers!!

Last year my sister gave me a sweatshirt type of thing (actually,if you were a girl you would call it a 'top')
It was definitely a girls one and I'm convinced it was something she received and decided to pass it on as she didn't want it...why me I'll never know.
She doesn't come on here so HA! in your face,Rose...

My dad bought me a new guitar (under orders from my mam not to get me another one, but he did anyway).
My brother still believed in Santa as he was 5 yrs younger. He dumped the guitar still in the box on my bed at some ungodly hour. Kicked it off the bed and fell back asleep. When I woke up and saw it (and my mam's face too) it was defo the best pressie ever.
Worst was a couple of years ago, my hubby bought me a pair of earrings almost exactly the same as the ones he bought the previous year. Saw the bank statement few weeks later, saw the $700 cost and nearly killed him. Never wore them, afraid I would lose them.
My brother bought my mam a kettle one year. Didn't go down well, but the bump on his head when she threw it at him was funny.

Best:
Load of good ones - anything sport related or books on irish politics. And that game Operation when I was a kid. I wanted it for about five years before the auld fella managed to get hold of it.
Worst:
My wife's aunt likes shopping. She likes giving pressies. I'm not sure when shopping if she ever considers whom she is buying for or whether she just buys random gifts for random people. A pair of gloves for driving stands out as possibly the worst I have got. Short of getting me a cigarette golder and scarf to go with them, I'm not sure how much worse it could get.
I now paint a smile on my face and then open any presents from her. It lessens the chances of a natural reaction.
My daughter is 3 and at her last birthday responded (as she did at Christmas and a few other times to various people) with "I don't like it". Normally I'm mortified, but at the same time not keen to batter her sense of individuality. This time it was just "That's from me for the gloves as well"
And I know it's the thought that counts!

Killian,
LOL Edging shears, Was there a method to her madness? Was she trying to tell you something about your hair?
My worst Christmas present was definitely a PINK tshirt dress with a ......(I can hardly bring myself to even think of it) a black painted leather belt. It was HIDEOUS, I don't care if it was the 80's, I was going to the Grove at the time. WHAT WAS MY SISTER THINKING!!!!! (never mind the fact that I hate PINK and NEVER wear the colour). Happily she was living in Canada, so it got binned straight away and she was none the wiser .
Best Present is harder, there've been a lot of good ones. For me presents with a thought behind them always stick in my head. So a joke presents from my parents when I was about 17 of a paper back Enid Blyton book I read to death when I was a kid kinda sticks out. I had inherited the book and the last two pages were missing so although I had read "The Secret Island" over and over I never really knew how it ended. I must've said something about it during the year, but there is was in my "Stocking" that Christmas, we all got a great laugh out of it and I thouroughly enjoyed rereading it after all those years.....Ahh I'm feeling all soppy about it now.

This year has to be up there. Missus bought me a cool, tan (no pun) leather lether jacket. I feel so posh wearing it and am too mean to splurge on something like this for myself. And to top it my daughter bought me a DVD of the 2006 Ryder Cup which I attended. Still tingling.

I know what you mean Frank. If, on the rare occasion, I do want a new shirt etc., I'll buy it myself. People don't know what I like and, more often than not, pick up something that I won't wear.
