Hey gang,
There's gonna be loads at the Grove 40th reunion and there's bound to be lots of requests for songs, so, what songs would you like to hear more than any others at the next Grove night?? If you were pushed, what would be your choices for top 5 Grove slow songs and top 5 fast songs??
Mel.

Mel you will not believe me but I was going to do a topic on just this very thing! Great idea even if I say so myself .
I won't be there but if I was I would ask for:
Guitar Man
Dreamer
Our House
Wish you were here
Carry on my wayward son
just to name a few!
Perhaps you should name your era when putting in your songs to give the lads some songs to cover the timespan.

Ok...
Slow...
Old and Wise...Alan Parsons project...
Stay with me 'til Dawn...Judie (the only song that got a thread all it's own)
Romeo + Juliet...Straits
Like a Hurricane...Mr.Young
Iris...Goo Goo Dolls (this would be its debut at the Grove)
Headshakers...
More than a Feeling...Boston (the Groves anthem by now)
Living in the Past...Tull,
Dearg Doom...Horslips,
The Nile Song...Floyd
Garden Party...Marillion.
Not essentially headbanging stuff, but more prog.Could have a good jump around to Garden Party.
We better start this re-union at about 2 in the afternoon to get through all these...

My memory was never the best, and getting worse, but here we go (as soon as I post this someone will come up with all sorts of other great ones that I'll feel guilty/stupid for having forgotten)...
Slow:
Imagine - John Lennon
Wonderful Tonight - Clapton
Stairway to Heaven - Zepp
Fools Rush In - Elvis
Eternal Flame - Bangles
Quick - Quick-ish:
since you've been gone - Rainbow
Paranoid - Sabbath
Alternative Ulster - SLF (need some moshing)
Rock 'n' Roll - Zepp (it was this or rosie for headbanging)
Oliver's Army - Elvis C (was this ever played at the Grove? just love the song)
this has meant omitting Black Betty and Come on Eileen which were Grove essentials......

Floydman, I'm with you on Iris, was just listening to it last night......For ages I thought it was Aslan not Goo Goo Dolls....odd cos the rest of their stuff has that real Canadian sound (If you know what I mean - are they Canadian?)

Headbangin'....
Rainbow - Since you been gone

Skynard - Freebird
Led Zep - Stairway
Snoggin'...
Judy Tsuke - Stay with me til Dawn
Hazel O'Connor - Will you?
Air Supply - All out of love (I hate this song but it wouldn't be the Grove without it)
Moody Blues - Nights in White Satin
Procul Harem - Whiter Shade of Pale
Ok so I snuck in 12 - Sorrreeeeee couldn't stop

Slow - Angie,Will You ?,Wish You Were Here,Jealous Guy and Still in Love With You.
Again, not necessarily personal favourites but Essentials.

Much preferred the shorter granddad shirts - spent most of my teenage years in one. Or maybe I had two and they sometimes got washed! Must stay on the lookout for granddad shirts - so comfortable and to my eyes anyway, stylish.
Never a huge fan of the dessies meself either - docs all the way. This may be heresy on this site, but there you go. Although I do remember a phase of runner boots, and another of buckle boots. The suede was destroyed by the time I got home from Simon Harte's (where it was compulsory to buy all your shoes for years it seemed to me)

Hey Bruns, sorry for the bum steer on the shirts. I only saw them through the window and intended to pay another visit today. Our outfits almost invariably included dessies or cowboy boots when we weren't on the bikes. I always associated Docs with skinheads and bootboys who were our nemises in those days. It's gas when you think back to the discos in the city centre. We couldn't get in with jeans and dessies but the people who caused the trouble wore crombies and dress trousers with Docs. It makes one wonder about perceptions. ( I have a story about that from my days in South Africa when we encountered hundreds of Zulus marching and chanting along the street. Given that my wife is African it was really scary)

Muller...
Please elaborate on that story...
Remember when I was in Rome once with my Mother and somehow we got caught up in a demonstration and could not find a side road to flee until we were all surrounded by riot police. They boxed us all in and when I approached one explaining I was a dumb tourist, he gestured me to back off. Eventually we made a bolt for freedom through a gap. Bit frightening the whole thing.

Think it was a headbanging thing Stevie. Girls with really long hair would bend over at the waist and shake their heads in a sideways figure of eight motion.
It was really cool to watch.

Rolo got it in one, Instead of headbanging back and forth really fast, you could do a more leisurely side to side head bang, but if you needed to take it up a gear for a fav song or whatever you could do a kinda figure of 8 thingy......next time I've a few beers on me at a reunion I'll give you a demo.
