Anybody know what year the grove actualy started. I went in the early 70's but my older brother and older sisters went but I cant tell there agesfor fear of being shot. Being a very young 53 my 2 kids went to the Grove (St Pauls.) The bro lives in New Zealand and when he was home his 3 kids went to the Grove (St Pauls) Now I have 2 sisters in Canada, you would never guess where their 3 kids went when they were home. Cecil was there for all 12 of us. What a man.

Here's to you Cecil

Yo Dayo Again

I think it was 67 but could have been late 66 not sure.

Someone out there will know.

I'm about 6 months older than you but started early just before Inter cert. Met a lovely lass who lived on Mt Prospect so it was dead handy.

There's a section on the front page of the website lads, just click on Cecil's pic for the link.  Cecil himself says the Grove started in '67!.

Hi again, Dayo. My son attended the last reunion with his girlfriend. They enjoyed themselves as well as the Grovers. Rolo asked me was I not "morto doin, the headbangin, and air guitar with my eldest looking on"."Not a bit" says I, " he is used to it"

Hi Brunswick

Love the signature. It reminds me of the old TV room in the dollier. Being the tallest, I used to get sent to the hatch and did ask for

             "2 pints of Smithwicks and 2 packets of crisps".        &nbs p;

The barman rarley stuck his head out so we got served every time, then we rolled our way up Mt Prospect to the Grove doing our best to look sober at the door

Heya Dayo,

The bouncers must have got a fierce laugh at all of us stinking of polo mints, trying not to sway at the door of that place "Honessht, I'm nnott dhrunk, sherioushly!!" *hic*, burp!

Dayo just reminded me of something

I have a bad stammer and whenever our gang went to a new venue they would make me order the first round and exagerate the stammer

fffooouuurr piiiiints guineasssss and tttt--ttwo smittttickkks ppl----ease.

Then no matter how full the place got I just had to put up me hand and the barman would always remember the round. Worked every time

If I remember correctly from the documentary Cecil said The Grove started in Feb 1967.

Dayo

No it was always known as the Grove. Easons I think was in the Tennis Club off Seafield Road and only held now and again.

I may be totally wrong here and am open to correction but we always referred to it as the Grove being in Belgrove Football Club at the time
