I was a bit bored in work and just came across this site, i cant believe it exists, the grove days were the best days of my teenage years, great music, great knacker drinking in st. annes park and all at the tender age of 16ish. Is there anybody out there that was groving in my day. My older sisters also went to the grove they are now 40 and 42, im currently the tender age of 34.

I'm sure there are quite a few members from your time here.

The next reunion is on the 29th Oct...Fancy Dress if you're up for it. Check out the Halloween reunion thread for details. There's also the possibility of taxi's being organised so all us NCDers can share.
And by the way...although most of us on this site may seem to know each other from the Grove days...most of us have only gotten to know each other through the site.

Howdy. I'd have been around your time-ish, although I'm that bit older than you.
You Hampton Court in Clontarf?
I used head there regularly enough with a crowd of lads, many from that neck of the woods - Dermot, Peter, Paul, Mick, Owen, Shane, Ger - any of those names ring a bell?

Hya Darach I would probably know them but without surnames im not sure, there were lots of kids growing up in hampton in my day, never short of a buddy to call on. i lived in no. 78 which was the corner house in the gap, not the road with the green on it, have gone a while now but would love to go back, needing to win lottery first though. I worked in the belgrove shop where i met my now husband, he was not a grover though and doesnt have a clue why i go a bit insane when i hear a song from those days.

Welcome! I was actually at that reunion in the cricket! I was home from the states and delighted when I heard of it. Great night had by all and I have photo's here which I will post some day of that night also. Wasn't Brian Smith the DJ?

Always thought that Stephen Halpin was the DJ that night. Wasn't that the one with the Fund Raising Race Night before it.

Hi Shirley....welcome to the site. I found it a few months ago and am addicted. There are a great bunch of people here and as you heard, very few of us knew eachother "back then" but a great crew is forming of new friends.
I haven't been to any of the reunions cos I have lived in Australia for 19 years but will be back in Dublin for Christmas so am going to the one on the 27th! can't wait. The Christmas Groves were always brilliant...you should come along. Dont think you have to "know" anyone...we'll mind ya.

Hi Shirley,
Welcome to the Grove website.
As you can see I'm one of the "older" members but when the reunions come around I rock like I was still in my late teens in the old Grove back in the early 70's.
I have met many wonderful people on this site and it's just keeps getting better. It's more like a Grove family and there are many varied topics and feel free to express yourself on any of the topics and add new ones if you so wish.
We're all learning about each other through this site and the great thing is that age doesn't matter. The Grove was part of our lives no matter when you went.

Sheezus Pat---I cant't believe I am the oldest Grover on here (Groving in
Belgrove '68), I just celebrated my 36 wedding anniversary on October 15th
to a woman I met slowdancing at the Grove. It took me 35 years to realize
she can't dance a lick. But she's a great cook so it wasn't all bad.

I haven't had a chance to check on the site for a while, gotta earn a "crust", ya know, we can't all be sitting at our computer terminals getting paid for web-socialising! Anyway, saw this post by Hamptongrover aka Shirley - I have to say, a warmer welcome you wouldn't find anywhere else! If I get half the welcome when I reach The Pearly Gates I'll be lucky! The Grove spirit is well and truly alive... and living in cyberspace! So I'd just also like to reiterate all the above sentiments and welcome you to the site/time machine. Hope you've a lot of fun Shirley. And in answer to your opening question - I would've gone during your time, although the latter half and beyond. Late '88/'89- '92ish...

Some hooligan posted a short video of the Grove Rock Lobster on you tube following the 40th reunion. Don't know if it's still there. The young vandals who went on the Sunday night are (ir)responsible for this.
