Due to a major oversight on the part of Chraobh Chiarain, and after a call to a cease of all Grove Halloween Reunion advertising by the Authorities (Gardai) last week, a meeting with those responsible for enforcing the objection and a phone call last night - I was informed (this morning) that the Grove Halloween Reunion cannot go ahead at Chraobh Chiarain this Sunday!!! So not being one to let such minor hick-ups get me down, I decided I'd two options: a) Cancel the event or b) try to find an alternative venue. I opted for "option b" at least until I'd no option but to cancel. SO, I've opted for the "out the back of a Hi-Ace in St. Anne's" option offered sometime back by Flumphert (I think!). No, but seriously, after a marathon on the blower today, the only option open to me was the following:
The Grove Halloween Reunion will now be held in The Button Factory (formerly known as the Temple Bar Music Centre). BUT unfortunately there is a late club on afterwards. They've accommodated us by allowing us to play Grove music til midnight AND, AND come midnight, they'll play it by ear and if the numbers for the late club are sufficiently low, we'll go into an "extra time" scenario. Now considering that there are some who've traveled from abroad for this event (I don't want to hear any moaning from those who are traveling from within the county) I think this option beats a cancellation.
But! Every cloud has it's silver lining: this is the newest venue in town with a sound system second to none AND regardless of how long we get to play Grove music for, we are all welcome to stay in the venue where the bar will remain open til 3am!!! Yes, 3am!!!
So thanks to Dave at The Button Factory for coming to our aid at the eleventh hour, much appreciated!
And that's the best I can offer you. Apologies for the inconvenience and for dragging you northsiders across the river, but I promise we'll do our very best to make it a memorable night.
Yours sincerely,
Crust.
P.S. Doors definitely still 7.30pm. Especially that the Grove music curfew is potentially midnight! ... Cinderella... Pumpkin... Halloween... Reunion... Button Factory... word association anyone!?!

By the way, please tell the world about the change of venue, I'd hate for there to be a few un-notified unfortunates cursing us from the gates of Chraobh Chiarain. In the meantime I'll be doing my very best to alert one and all. Tickets.ie will be alerting all who purchased tickets over the internet via email, so I've to reach Austin's people and the last minuters!

Yes doors still open at 7.30pm. The TBMC is situated on Curved St. in Temple Bar (almost opposite the IFI Cinema on Eustace St.) It's kind of right inbetween Dame St. and the Wellington Quay. Do you know the Wall Of Fame? That's The Music Centre.

Andy-you must have been sweating earlier trying to keep the re-union going...well done...lets hope 'our' Grove music will go down well with the rest of that mob (why wouldn't it?) and we'll get to keep it going.
Sounds like under the circumstances you really pulled a rabbit from the hat.

The objection wasn't from The Craobh. I think it was the lack of a dance licence?!? But i still haven't talked to the boss one to one. I've been drip-fed info from voicemails and other sources. I can't say much more other than the fact that it the could've been objected to a little earlier, I mean it's been advertised for the last 6 weeks, why now all of a sudden?!? Has someone got a bee in their bonnet about something? I can't blame "The Law" as they're just doing their job!

Thanks Jen. I'm hoping to find my name my name on many a drink that night - especially the one in my hand as they're trying to hoosh me out the door at 3.05am! And of course Cecil will be there - it wouldn't be a Reunion without Cecil, now would it?!

Andy just wondering......I'm sure it must be more expencive to hire out "The Temple Bar music centre ( or Button Club) then it was to hire out Chraobh Chiarain, will the price of the tickets cover your cost ? I'm sure none of us would like to see you out of pocket.
------------- You are what you wanna be....age doesn't matter

Don't worry about the costs. The extra charge on the tickets for the late licence will cover some of it. It all depends on the numbers. I'm hoping it will balance out. The chances of losing money are high, but I just put that down to life - you win some, you lose some! I'm just happy that it's going ahead full stop. Just go and enjoy the night, I can't wait to play the music through that sound system! But thanks for your concern and consideration, much appreciated. But if you have a couple of mill burning a hole in your pocket, I'd be more than happy to ease your burdens, Grove Reunions aside!

Well done Andy that sounds like a great venue.
Id say the reason it couldent hapen in Craobh is because it is a club .You cant advertise an event outside the club it has to be advertised within the club and by word of mouth. That hapened one time when myself and a few others organised a race night. Because we advertised outside the club there was a complaint and the super in raheny Garda station was obliged to stop it. Anyway I cant wait for my first GROVE REUNION.

First of all well done Crusty for getting the venue at such short notice. It will be an education for the Southsiders. Secondly if you want to know what's "scheduled" to be on in the late slot in the nightclub - see below:

So basically let's keep DJ Tim V in the drink so Cinders can stay at the ball past midnight and sure he likes Indie and Eighties anyway so it'll be a bus mans holiday for him!!! edit: pic fixed!

Dayo, I think you hit the nail on the head there. I think it was a
combination of both. But the bottom line, advertising or no advertising,
the fact remains that they booked the night without a "dance hall" licence
and that's what the Super had based his argument on! Admittedly, had I
not advertised it maybe we would have got away with it, but then again,
no one would've known about it! Anyway, my one concern is that there is
no-one out there with a ticket who doesn't know about the change of
venue. So please spread the word. I don't want anyone wasting time and
money going to Chraobh Chiarain and getting pissed off that we've
moved the night.
