Just thought we needed something like this!

I will highlight bands name, so people can skim through the thread quickly.

Some tours just announced this week which may interest people.

Neil Young is in Europe in March, so far he has announced 7 Uk dates, including london, manchester and Edinburgh. There is also a paris date, nothing about an Irish date yet. Below is an excerpt from ticketmaster about the shows, looks great!

Neil Young will perform two sets; the first an acoustic performance and the second an electric set backed by a full band consisting of Ben Keith (guitar), Rick Rosas (bass) and Ralph Molina (drums). The tour also has an exciting support artist in the shape of Young’s wife Pegi, who recently released her self-titled debut album, and will be performing with Anthony Crawford.

And the second tour that may be of interest is that hot on the heels of the Led Zep gig, Robert Plant has released tour dates for 2007 with alison Krauss! and not zep, so far only four Uk dates announced, Birmingham, London, cardiff and manchester. This tour is in may. No irish dates yet, but there is a two week gap between cardiff and london shows, so who knows.

Velvet Revolver have tickets for two shows in ambassador in Dublin on sale today, the gigs are on 12th & 13th of March. Expensive enough to see them at €55 plus ticketmaster charges. But may be of interest to G'N'R fans. They still dont play much of the G'N'R back catalogue, just "used to love her"

though just wondering do you work for Ticketmaster ????

No, just that none of the above tickets are on other sites like http://www.tickets.ie - www.tickets.ie or http://www.wavtickets.com/though - http://www.wavtickets.com/though most of them can be bought in person from the Sound cellar on nassau st. Smaller shops like Freebird, Road Records or City Records in Dublin, while they sell tickets, they rarely get tickets for the the bigger gigs as ticketmaster doesnt give them to them. So for a lot of gigs in Ireland, there really is not much of a choice unless you work in the city centre of Dublin. Becase even if you buy them in your local spar or music shop in galway, they are just an outlet for ticketmaster.

With putting in the prices & ticketmaster, I was kind of doing several things, one to show how expensive it has become to go gigs over here now, and to show that even though it says €55 on the site, to be aware that there will still be an extra service charge as well, which can really add up if you are getting more than one ticket. Plus for some people who dont go to many concerts they may be unsure of where to get them anymore. If there are other options on where to get tickets, i will mention it.

In the UK, ticketmaster are big but they havent got the same hold as they do over here, and there are other options like seetickets.com or stargreen, or wayahead tickets.

Strangely enough, the first time I saw these guys was in Denmark at the Tonder festival a few years back. Great craic altogether.

Saw them again last year in the Tripod and they weren't half as good. Maybe it was because they were sloshed, maybe because I was sloshed or maybe just because the one-trick runs a bit thin after a while.

Definitely worth seeing at least once though. And for all their messing, they are fantastic musicians.

I'd probably go to this just for Leppard, was never a big Whitesnake fan, but Leppard's stuff from 99-05 hasn't actually been too bad. Their covers album was pretty decent actually.

Belfast is a buzzing city Pete. You should stay up there if you do go to the gig and go on the lash for the night.

Get the Enterprise up and back, only takes two hours. Sure you could even drive up. It's mad though. In the old days the roads on the far side were much better than ours, now it's the complete opposite.

.............failing that, you could get the bus..............with Shaun .

Belfast is a great city, well worth a visit. only over 2 hours in car too now.

odyssey is a big venue, normally an ice hockey rink. not too bad though.

    you could walk.....

The Odyssey is freakin' huge! Was there for UFC 72 last year. It's basically like an Arena in a shopping centre. Tons of places to eat there as well, which is needed with the general alcohol consumption in the place.

    Peter,

Is the Belfast gig not the easiest option? plus its a saturday night.

there is 24 hour bus service between dublin and blefast now, so easy to get back from.

Tonto and other half Anita are going to this-I opted out...had I not have seen them already I might have travelled, but not this time.

I believe Whitesnake are the "support" for the Leps???

Def Leppard and Whitesnake, who are set to embark on a co-headline UK tour

but as you say if DL have sold loads more they will be seen as the headliners.

Thanks for that TP, I am trying to talk my daughter out of going to Oxegen again this year - conditions last year were really bad.  No loos, no showers, peed rain for the whole weekend.  So I might dangle tickets to Clapton in front of her.   If there are any other really good gigs on over the summer - cud ye let me know ?

Saw him here in Perth last year, got some free tickets and I must say if I had of paid for them I would have been disappointed for parting with the cash. The show wasn't that good at all really. You could see it was just an aging ol rocker trying to do what he used to be good at. We also have him on the radio here at night and he is much better at that. His show is really good and he is very quick witted. I think he only lives for his golf these days, I heard he is a scratch golfer or close to it.

Yes Joey-Tonto,myself and the gang would often make a point to see Stairway to Zeppelin, remembering that they are just a tribute band. By that I mean go and listen to some Zep songs played well. I used to go to gigs with a guitarist from an old band and he used to drive me mad as he'd be criticising every note played, standing there with a frowned expression analysing every song and word to the point that he (or the rest of us) couldn't enjoy it. (you know who you are S!)

They do the dress up thing as well, and frontman even does a Plant impression while speaking and introducing the songs!

8 and a half out of ten.
