We were lucky when growing up to have the likes of The Grove, The Cricket Club, Oasis and various other Teenage disco that were local to hear music that would influence our music taste.
So what kind of music and bands do our kids like ? Where do they hear their favourite bands/songs ?

I start it off..
Some of Brads taste has comes from some of my stuff I play in the car, also he hears a lot of good songs from playing his PS2 games and then hears them on the radio. Some of the songs he likes are from the likes of U2, AC/DC, Alice Cooper, and Thin Lizzy. Bands/Songs he got interested in himself are the likes of Coldplay, The Killers and Green Day.
Brad a big fan of Spin 103.8fm. Everytime we get into the car he switches the station on. I have 6 pre-set buttons tuned in to radio station' button 5 is Spin and button 6 is Phantom. When he is flicking through the stations he always skips number 6 because he knows if there is a good song on it I will want to listen to it(sneaky git winder where he gets that from)
I bought him a 2 gig MP3 player in Aldi's about 2/3 months ago and I think I need to bring him to the hospital and get an operation to get it removed of him . He constantly listening to the radio on it.

Our Dave is into rock music and just like Brad came across alot of music through his Playstation/x-box games and then would download the songs from the internet. Sarah on the other hand is into chart music, she sits with her friends watching music on the tv most days while they gossip about whatever. Her favourite band at the moment is Westlife, but then she is only 12yrs.....I'm sure ( hope) it will change in a few years.

unfortunatly my daughters taste in music comes from disney and hannah montana etc but shes only 9 so theres hope for her yet!!! but my son loves rock music due to travelling to games for hours on end with me and having led zep and neil young drilled into him!!! i got my taste in music from my dad and i think ultimately we all end up loving our parents taste in music. well i know i did anyway! but i suppose the fact he loved cream and the kinks made it easy for me

My little ones have an eclectic taste in music (wonder where they get that from)
Current favourites are The Ragman's Ball and Henry my Son from my Frank Harte CD, Master of Puppets by Metallica, and some kids song about a terrible football team that they sing for me and finally "Dance for your Daddy" where they do ballet for me.
Difficult to keep a straight face when they fall flat on their backsides during ballet

all great music there. Good ones BR & Finno.
Our 2 still listen occasionally to stuff I compiled for their 1st cd ages ago - Val Doonican, Rolf Harris, Peter Paul & Mary etc - stuff I would've heard on the radio when I was their age. However when they're pottering around, they'll be humming Smoke on the Water, and lots of Dylan and Led Zep etc. - I'm afraid I have to blame the parents.

Couldnt even being to start with Liam he has so many on his ipod which he likes to play very very loudly
When he was little wonderWall from Oasis was his party piece then had a Meatloaf phase used to mine great concerts to all their songs that was followed by a big Queen / Rolling stone phase, Green day was next I think anyway whoever was the current flavour was played and sung very loudly in the house.
Now its could be anything from Snowpatrol to the Killers to Justin Timberlake, he is also a big Spin fan but loves Phantom too specially in the car as he reckons I drive faster when rock music is on
Now its lots of new Irish bands I've never heard of but sound pretty good and def fall into "grove music " material

Well Sophie is only 4yrs...
But she constantly asks me for the "jungle" song in the car.. that being Welcome To The Jungle.
She also goes around singing Amy Winehouse songs and Beyonce "Crazy In Love"... that is mainly to the fact i have songs on repeat at the mo trying to learn them for band.
But her all time favourite at the moment is Robert Plant and Alison Krauss "Please Read The Letter That I Wrote"
Along with all the Disney music of course!

my daughter is coming up to 15 and is really interested in Music, which is great as we have some common ground for us to talk about, though she does think that she knows more than me! the cheeky pup!
She is emo at the moment, and likes bands like fall out boy, panic at the disco, good charlotte etc
She goes to a few gigs, now that some of them are allowing in 14 year olds and not having bars open in venue. She went to see Linkin Park with her mates and 30 seconds to mars. Its great picking her and mates up after the gig as they are so excited still. its lovely to see the enthusiasm for live music.
plus our house is full of music, cds and lps everywhere, and bizarelly she buys her own music, sometimes she will download songs and sometimes she will buy it in HMV etc.
I have brought her to some gigs like Green day, Avril Lavigne, Pink, Him, Good Charlotte etc but thankfully i dont have to anymore, though I will say green day were great fun.

Kev is 15 and has a decent enough,if eclectic taste. The Killers are his fav at the minute, followed by AC/DC, in particular the Back in Black and Highway to Hell albums.
He's a big Green Day fan and also likes some of the newer stuff like The Zutons,Franz Ferdinand, Razorlight,The Feeling,The Fratellis etc.
The small fella ( 12 ) is a lost cause.
All he seems to like at the minute is that RnB rubbish,or whatever it's called...........ya know, Usher, Rihanna, etc.
God help us all .
Thank Christ he's a handy little hurler, otherwise I'd have to sell him.

Rachel (5yrs) is belting out Dancing Queen, substituting her own words constantly if she can't remember. "having" is constantly referred to as "kevin".
I've even heard her sing "oh mandy" in the supermarket. (its ok Rolo, I haven't taught her any of the words)
She seems to like a lot of rock music, so that should make up for the above

My Andrew's a bit odd in that, up until recently he didn't have much interest in music. He likes The Mission from my listening to them so much. Poor kid's been brainwashed! However, two weeks ago, while in HMV in Swords, he asked me to buy him a Linkin Park cd...which constitutes his first. At 17 years old, I'm inclined to think he's a late developer. Let's hope it's the first of many.

Ciara will happily listen to Brian's blues stuff or my goth/rock stuff...although she says I play it too loud. TOO LOUD???

Megan (11) went through a Queen phase recently, thanks to her cousin. She was blaring them one night when I was on the phone to Tonto and I had to say to him 'hold on mate..."TURN THAT RACKET DOWN!!" Evanescence to be pedantic,Finno-have a couple of theirs, too. Not totally stuck in the 70's and 80's! Fantastic voice-think if they had a normal male voice then they would be just like a lot of the other goth, skateboard type of bands. Check out the video for Lithium http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4aiH0AiXBE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4aiH0AiXBE ...and check out he voice... would certainly have been a band for the Grove.

Our son Dave turn's 18yrs in November this year and can't wait to bring him to a grove reunion cos I just know he'll just love the music and the friends we've made, so hopefully there will be a Christmas reunion this year for us to bring him.......are you listening Andy ????

Can never find any of my CD's, old or new. God help them if they ever touch
the vinyl!!! Both of ours have the usual modern groups but especially adore
Rock/Metal. Have to say that hearing "Dead Babies" being sung, word perfect
by my 13yr old came as a bit of a surprise one Saturday morning (the bigger
surprise was that he was singing it in the shower and nobody had asked him
to get in), and as for their rendition of "Motorcycle (significance of the
pickle) Song" that had me laughing for at least an hour!
