Congratulations to a fantastic Irish rugby team whose commitment, determination and heart make them deserving champions.

Today is a proud day to be Irish and true Irish qualities were displayed by all the players, coach and supporters.

This is true Irishness and shows what we can achieve as a nation.

During these bleak times of recession a victory like this lifts the spirit of a nation and shows what we can achieve when we work together.

61 years of waiting is over.

Congratulations to one and all

They were absolutely fantastic and if ever I was going to die of a heart attack it would have been today!!! Brilliant!

Have to agree Pat.

As you know, I'd normally prefer to watch an Under 13 Hurling match ( especially when we have a great win as we did today   ) to a rugby match, but confess that I was glued to the seat wathing tonight.

A really exciting match that we had in the bag but almost blew through nerves and iniscipline.

Listened to Declan Kidney afterwards, what a humble man he is.

Legend.

I thought Mary McAleese gave a great interview afterwards. She should have charged a euro for every kiss she got. Whata great president. Imagine Merkle doing that???

Great performance by a great team. MotM - O'Driscoll plus 21 others. Luke Fitz was awesome - much underrated.

I'm laughing here as I watch RTE rewind! One fella being interviewed said "Their Legends not leg ends! Legends"  lol

Would of loved to be home for that!

Heading over to Fado's yesterday there was droves of Irish walking around all looking so high on the moment!! Gotta love it.

I was priveledged to be in Cardiff yesterday - an incredible experience. I had my head in my hands for that last penalty kick and there was pandemonium among Irish fans when it fell just short. The Welsh supporters were very gracious after the match and seemed genuinely happy that we finally won a grand slam.

Great win....

Didnt anyone tell Warren Gatland (re the Welsh players disliking the Irish players) that you play these "mind games" after you have won...?

I don't understand the game at all, but like the rest of you I was stuck to my seat and holding my breath during the last kick. What a fantastic team, they did us proud

I must have been the only one who didn't bother with either or getting excited about the whole thing ...
Delighted Ireland won and Bernard Dunne too though.

I think that Saturday was a great boost for the Irish people. Between thr Rugby and the Boxing it brightens up the resession a little and gives hope to everybody. Happy days for Irish sport, long may it continue.

A real heartstopper - watched it in a well-packed Irish pub - Irish, English. Welsh, Scots, Americans, Kiwis and Germans - a great atmosphere all round ... what a brilliant performance - I will go into withdrawal now ... to arise again January next when it all starts again!!

Have to say it's great to have some more " egg chasers " as Rolo calls us, on the site.

I watched the match in Paris and to say I was up to high dooo is an understatment. Me nerves.

What a celebration after it however

Hate the Rugby Saturdays in HBs and normally avoid them like the plague.

Got stuck after the English game this year and thought it was a nightmare.

Glad it's all over and we can get back to normal.

Been down for all the games this time around bar the English one  and it was grand up until last saturday never experienced anything like it you literally couldnt get to the loos !!!!!!!!!!

Bar staff were excellant as always they certainly earned their money. But everyone was in great form and very plesant bar one notable exception who felt that they should clear the place so she could see clearly  Mo and her nearly came to blows....................

Fell out of the place about 9.30ish

Is that a kind of reverse snobbery Ronan?? I'm sure they are lovely people if you just took the time to get to know them!!!

Nah G, not at all.

It's nothing to do with who the punters are or what they are into,( even if it is Rugby ) just that the place is absolutely jammers with people you wouldn't see from one end of the year to the other, who think they've a divine right to roar and scream all day, spill your drink by repeatedly bumping into you, regale you with stories about how great a boozer HBs is and how they can't wait 'til Holy Thursday,or Christmas Eve when they'll be back again.

Prefer if they all just stayed at home and left me high stool alone

What a great day. Would have loved to have been there. I considered going before start of internationas going to Cardiff. but with having already to commited to Edinburgh for Heineken Cup Final (have flights, hotel and match tickets) felt I would be pushing my luck!

I got a bit of a sl*gging as the tears rolled at the final whistle!

(first match I was brought to was in 1972 when France came to Dublin for a friendly - after we had beaten them in Paris, when Wales and Scotland refused to come to Dublin)

ps took Pauline on our second date to Leinster v Ulster  crowd consisted of 100 or so + 2 dogs
