No Problem Mary, with nearly 600 km to walk, i will have time to pray for all of ye, several times! I am doing the pilgrimage,
The main route, featured here, is more commonly known as the Camino Frances,. This part of the Camino de Santiago traditionally starts in St Jean Pied de Port and finishes in Santiago de Compostela about 780km later, after traveling the breadth of Northern Spain.(In Santiago you can collect your Compostela) However you can start anywhere and even continue past Santiago to the sea at Finisterre. Finisterre was thought to be the end of the world in medieval times. Last year we awlked from St Jean in France, crossed the pyrennes into Spain and walked to Burgos. This year we are walking from Burgos to Finisterre, and maybe back to santaigo again, depending on time and our condition. There are five of us walking, all working in central bank of ireland, we range in ages from 30 to 64, and all levels of fitness. Thought this year a few of us are taking the training a bit more seriously. Today we will walk from three rock pub in rathfarnham to enniskerry village via wicklow way after work, about 20 km. Tomorrow a circuit of djouce, Something on friday, and lug on sunday, fentons to glenmalure. We have decided to try and raise some money for St. Francis Hospice in Raheny. So if anyone wants to sponsor me, feel free. We were sent some cards from the hospice for this. All money raised will go to the hospice. It will be greatly appreciated. |

That's a lot of walking!!! I think the hospice does an amazing job. They get no government funding of any kind! A very worthy cause.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the kind words of support, joey, hopepully 18 days walking or less, they say that after first week, you can increase distance, we are starting with 30 km a day, plus we are all carrying our backbacks, which adds another 10 -12 kg on us plus water. then after the second week we hope increase the distance again, so we may finish earlier. We still stay in hostels and dormitories arranged by the church in spain, there are lots of places to stay. We will probably start walking about 6.30 - 7.00 in morning, to avoid the midday heat. We expect to finish each day by about three to four in afternoon each day. You can give the sponsorship money to myself or pass it on directly to hospice, whichever is most convenient. I will be at both of the meet ups in next few weeks. |

http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/ireland/dun-laoghaire/159350645 yesterdays walk, on above link. underneath the map, there is a box that says elevation, if you click that you get the profile of the walk. Apart from training side of yesterdays walk, it is a good day out if anyone on site does hill walking or hiking. It is well signposted, so hopefully one shouldnt get lost. lots of little waymark signs. The walk is about 20 km, but it can be cut in half and finish in johnny foxes instead of enniskerry. Plus both the start and finish are serviced with buses, so need to arrange two cars, which is the usual way for a-b routes. We were quite lucky with light and weather, it was dusk when we arrived in enniskerry and just starting to rain. |
