This thread is for forum members to recommend albums/artists/tracks that other forum members may not have or even heard of.
We probably have or are aware of the most famous artists/albums, e.g Exile On Main Street by Rolling Stones but what about other artists/albums/tracks we'd recommend. For example. I have an album by Jason & The Scorchers called "Lost and Found" from 1985 which I highly recommend. JJ Cale "Anthology" is another highly recommended album. Corey Stevens, "Blue drops Of Rain". Has a track named "The Brothers" that is one of the best songs I have ever heard. Molly Hatchet, "Fall of the Peacemakers" off the "No Guts...No Glory" album. Up there with "Freebird". Blue Ridge Rangers. Album by John Fogerty under name of Blue Ridge Rangers where he covers some country songs and plays ALL the instruments. Also his "Centrefield" and "Blue Moon Swamp" album. Electric Light Orchestra, " A New World Record". A highly under rated album which in my view is a classic. Grateful Dead, "American Beauty" and "In The Dark". Two more classics. Happy Mondays. "Pills,Thrills and Bellyaches". I love the song "Step On" which of course was taken from a John Congos '71 song "He's Gonna Step On You Again". Los Lobos. "The Neighbourhood". Joan Osbourne. "Relish". Has the track "If God was One Of Us". The rest of the album is brill as well. Rolling Stones. "Stripped". The so called unplugged Stones album. Superb. Velvet Underground. "1969" . A live double album. Possibly one of the best live albums of all time. Van Morrison & The Chieftans. "Irish Heartbeat". what a combination playing some old Irish classics. Warren Zevon. "Stand In The Shadow" . Live album. Another great guy, sadly gone. Anyway, thats a few albums/artists/tracks that I personally recommend. These may not be your taste or you may already have all these. I hope you guys give me a few suggestions/recommendations. Even new artists. Edited by Biker Pat |

Rock on Russ. Look forward to your recommendations. It's hard to know where to stop here as I'm assuming most folks have a knowledge of music, through Cecil/Grove days. |

Revolution Calling , Revolution Calling, Calling all you prog. rockers out there, just a quick word to recommend the long awaited return to form of seattle's greatest ever band, Queensryche. Yes indeed the long awaited Operation Mindcrime2 is on the shelves and is well worth a listen. all the favourites are there including the wonderful Pamela Moor as Sister Mary , and check out the legendary Ronnie James Dio as Doctor X on "the chase ". Nice work boys, now where have you been since 1990 ? |

Wonder does Mr.Dio still have to stand on a box to reach the mic. or has modern technology taken over. Rolo.

no rolo he just uses giant boots. just saw dio recently in the ambassador and was blown away. small man, big voice. just awesome . he did a load of old rainbow and sabbath classics. i'm working on a review for the site , maybe i'll convince you of his merits after you read that.

Seriously Softlad,ya don't have to convince me about his voice. Not his fault he's Vertically Challenged. I'm a big fan of Heaven and Hell and of his Rainbow stuff. In fact I think Starstruck is a deadly song and one of my old favourites. Would welcome a review of that show and of any others you can manage. Rolo. |

"High, noon, oh, I'd sell my soul for water Nine years worth of breakin' my back There's no sun in the shadow of the wizard See how he glides, why he's lighter than air" A little lyric from my favourite Rainbow song |

rolo and russian, you guys should check out dio's older stuff with elf . it's a bit more american country and blues than you'd imagine but some of the more mellow moments like 'this is your life' and 'never more' and the sublime 'wonderworld' showcase his voice amazingly well. the more upbeat stuff like 'black swampy water ' and 'prentice wood' create a great singalong moments. checkout the 3 elf albums : 1) elf 2) trying to burn the sun 3) carolina country ball |

Didn't Softlad 'cos I was away at the time and wondered what it would have been like. Did you go, and if so please post a review. Was never a fan of Queen or their stuff but love Free and Bad Company. Ever get a hold of Straight Shooter by Bad Company or of Paul Kossoff's solo album,...........can't remember what it's called. Both are well worth a listen. Rolo. |
